Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is one of the most complete and great customer service that I experienced with a software company/ecosystem.""I think the most valuable feature for Alteryx in a health facility is that it permits cleaning, organizing, and merging of databases such as Excel and Access.""I like the solution's velocity, the speed with which it processes data, and its ease of use.""Good data transformation.""The modeling features are very good.""Alteryx speeds up the time to obtain business answers/insights on data.""The connectors are a very good feature.""The scheduling feature for the automation is excellent."

"Easy to analyze data by click-through.""On the positive side, QlikView's scripting is a great asset as it functions as an ETL.""Our Qlikview applications help us to get a good idea of our Client Base Performance and assist us in the decision making for Seasonal Specials. On the other hand QlikView helps us to get a grasp on our Suppliers and helps us to negotiate pricing with them.""The user interface and dashboards are very good.""The language support is very good."

Cons
"It would be great to create the final users' visualization within Alteryx.""There are no ready models to use in analytics.""The workflow and pipeline need to improve.""What they're struggling with is it's not as mature as Tableau in the user management area. It was tougher to manage the server part of it right away, especially since the user base has grown.""Sometimes workflows tend to queue up, and they tend to get canceled for some reason that we don't know sometimes.""There are a few imputation techniques which they really need to include.""The solution can be quite complex in some aspects.""The scalability worries me a lot at the moment because the cost of the solution is high and it is not growing considerably. Unfortunately, we started during early COVID times and because of the economic downturn, all the cost cuttings, and everything, it is not growing as expected."

"There is no automation or drag and drop functionality.""The solution is quite costly.""If a user wanted to see something not included in the application the new object had to be created by a power user or developer because Qlik view's scripting has somewhat of a learning curve.""The user interface is old.""It would be nice if QlikView could be plugged in into the company's website or an online portal such as QlikSense is capable of. There are ways around but it takes enormous time to develop."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "There are some implementation services and internal effort costs at the beginning but there is nothing else."
  • "The price for Alteryx Designer is reasonable but the price for Alteryx Server for universal collaborations is too expensive."
  • "Opt for the three year subscription. It is 20% less than the yearly one."
  • "ROI is huge. There are some secondary benefits, like analysts getting their post 5 PM time back or the ability to shorten all closing processes to a half or less."
  • "It is $4,000 a year, so it is cheap versus other solutions. It also accomplishes three times the volume on the job in the same time (as the other solutions)."
  • "I don't know much about the licensing, but there are some additional costs for certain features."
  • "The license is really expensive, we cannot afford to have two or three. It takes away all the budget of my area."
  • "Its price should be lower. The key thing that we see is that talking about ROI is an important element at the time of purchase. Cost becomes a factor in every discussion. Justifying the ROI for these kinds of workflows is always a challenge, and the only way to counter the challenge is by addressing the pricing."

  • "The setup costs for QlikView are fair as are the yearly maintenance fees. The licensing becomes a bit more expensive and requires some planning for onboarding."

    Comparison Review
    Guillermo (Bill) Cabiro
I do use both Tableau and QlikView. Although very different, I really like both solutions. They belong to the new BI generation known as Interactive Visual Analytics. In my opinion, QlikView has a more intuitive interface for regular users or executives that are not technical experts but the development side is a little more complex. Up to version 12 QlikView did not provide drag & drop features. If a user wanted to see something not included in the application the new object had to be created by a power user or developer because Qlikview's scripting has somewhat of a learning curve. On the positive side, QlikView's scripting is a great asset as it functions as an ETL allowing the integration of hundreds of different data sources into the same visual app. Another feature that’s extremely useful is Qlik’s proprietary Associative Model that allows the users to visualize data relationships that exist as well as those that do not. Tableau on the other hand is a lot easier to use for developers, analysts or power users who need to connect, manipulate and visualize data rather quickly. While this makes Tableau a better fit for the more analytical crowd, it may not be as appealing or intuitive to the regular or casual business users as QlikView is. Tableau has full pivot, drag & drop and drill down capabilities that are great for developers or power users. They can rotate measures and dimensions and graph them instantly using visualization best practices as suggested by… Read more →
