Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The solution offers a low footprint. We don't have to come up with a data center ourselves. We basically don't have to own any hardware. We just rent a slice of their platform and we have everything we need.""The most valuable features are load balancers, databases, and S3 buckets.""The most valuable feature is that it is simple.""There are a lot of features that I really like including ease of deployment, ease of build and release, and also that it is heavily focused on a PaaS or SaaS model.""The experience with Amazon AWS is error-free. That was also, of course, something that I really appreciate. That means it's really well-tested and, as published or as declared.""The main feature that I like the most is the variety of solutions that it provides. It provides some analysis, business information and more. It provides a wide variety of services.""There is less work for the DBAs. Everything is handled in AWS itself.""It has a dynamic scaling capacity which is very helpful."

"This product is very good because it is accessible in remote locations, and anyone can deploy from any place.""The price of IBM Cloud is most valuable for us. The service is personable and gives us a good rapport. I can't say it's the best, but it was enough for our needs.""The availability is second to none. Customer support is very good.""One of the features that I really like about IBM Cloud is the flexibility where you can order your own hardware.""This is a predictable and dependable service.""There is no installation for this product because it is a cloud product.""It is easy to deploy what you need for the initial setup""For non-complex applications, the IBM Cloud works fine and the price is much lower than the competitors."

Cons
"They should really consolidate and make things simpler rather than offer you hundreds of random options. The way everything is arranged really forces users to figure out everything on their own and then, on top of that, to calculate the total costs. There's an infinite number of combinations even just with cost calculations. It's just too much.""There are some limitations for certain applications that happen regionally and it is an issue for us.""They can launch the Oracle service in Azure, and we expect that this should be possible in Amazon AWS as well.""One of the problems that I have seen is that some of the products are not as mature as others.""I'm just bugged by the charges that I'm not really able to manage.""One area that could be improved is in data management. They could improve on the data side. For example, I see others with better cloud services and larger data computing capabilities.""We don't know whether to increase server capacity or alert notifications. We don't know which hard disc to purchase or what the next recommended CPU is. There should be an indicator. We would like to have more guidance.""Some of their well-listed services are not super configurable."

More Amazon AWS Cons »

"I would like to see a more user-friendly deployment process in the next release of this solution.""Maybe performance enhancers and reports could be better improved. If they do so, it would be better. Of all the drawbacks I saw, this would be the biggest enhancement.""The deployment can be a bit of a pain. There are a lot of packages and a lot of options and it can require complex configuration to get it right.""There is not a lot of support for this solution, which is something that needs to be improved.""They could improve on customizing reporting capabilities.""It could be more secure.""The initial setup and the pricing are areas that need improvement.""They do not have a very good virtual network implemented, and the VPC is the most important feature that needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It's my understanding that our company is charged a few hundred dollars on a monthly basis.""I find that Amazon AWS is expensive.""The Oracle licensing is higher than it is with Amazon AWS.""I think they've done a pretty good job with their pricing.""Its price is kind of okay. When we do a migration from on-premises to the cloud, we typically use the lift-and-shift model. Based on the studies that we have done, cost savings are definitely there when we moved from on-premises to the cloud.""The price could be lower.""There are many variables involved in pricing service in AWS and overall the pricing is a bit on the higher side.""AWS is not an expensive product."

More Amazon AWS Pricing and Cost Advice »

"We are using the trial version of this solution, so we have not paid anything.""The price of IBM Cloud is very cheap compared to competitors AWS and Azure.""The licensing fees are straightforward and predictable.""Pricing is not as fair as Amazon or Azure.""In order to be competitive, you have to commit to a contract for at least one year, but you pay a fixed monthly fee."

Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS), is a collection of cloud computing services, also called web services, that make up a cloud-computing platform offered by Amazon.com. These services operate from 12 geographical regions across the world. The most central and well-known of these services arguably include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, also known as "EC2", and Amazon Simple Storage Service, also known as "S3". Amazon markets AWS as a service to provide large computing capacity more quickly and more cheaply than a client company building an actual physical server farm.

IBM Cloud is a full-stack cloud platform that spans public, private and hybrid environments. Build with a robust suite of advanced data and AI tools, and draw on deep industry expertise to help you on your journey to the cloud.
