Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The solution offers a low footprint. We don't have to come up with a data center ourselves. We basically don't have to own any hardware. We just rent a slice of their platform and we have everything we need.""The most valuable features are load balancers, databases, and S3 buckets.""The most valuable feature is that it is simple.""There are a lot of features that I really like including ease of deployment, ease of build and release, and also that it is heavily focused on a PaaS or SaaS model.""The experience with Amazon AWS is error-free. That was also, of course, something that I really appreciate. That means it's really well-tested and, as published or as declared.""The main feature that I like the most is the variety of solutions that it provides. It provides some analysis, business information and more. It provides a wide variety of services.""There is less work for the DBAs. Everything is handled in AWS itself.""It has a dynamic scaling capacity which is very helpful."

"One of the best features of this solution is that it is web-based and you can log in and work on it from anywhere.""The most valuable feature is the data synchronization, or the push and pull of the data.""SAP has provided very good support.""SAP is an excellent company with an excellent reputation, excellent products, and dedicated customer support.""The most valuable feature is integration.""It's suitable for various sizes of companies. I have used it with big companies and with small ones as well.""Scalability is one of the benefits that we have in using the product.""The ability to expand it whenever required has been great — it's very simple."

Cons
"They should really consolidate and make things simpler rather than offer you hundreds of random options. The way everything is arranged really forces users to figure out everything on their own and then, on top of that, to calculate the total costs. There's an infinite number of combinations even just with cost calculations. It's just too much.""There are some limitations for certain applications that happen regionally and it is an issue for us.""They can launch the Oracle service in Azure, and we expect that this should be possible in Amazon AWS as well.""One of the problems that I have seen is that some of the products are not as mature as others.""I'm just bugged by the charges that I'm not really able to manage.""One area that could be improved is in data management. They could improve on the data side. For example, I see others with better cloud services and larger data computing capabilities.""We don't know whether to increase server capacity or alert notifications. We don't know which hard disc to purchase or what the next recommended CPU is. There should be an indicator. We would like to have more guidance.""Some of their well-listed services are not super configurable."

"I would like to see more and better support for data transformations.""Usability is a challenge most of the time and not being able to get all of the information.""We need to connect our ERP solution via the VPN. We need to make sure our ERP solutions aren't exposed to the outside world. Our teams really struggle with this.""They are still developing this product. It does not really have 100% of the necessary features available to properly service business clients""In the next release, I would like to see improvements with the price and the licensing.""The solution requires more flexibility overall.""My impression of the stability is that it is not good. Almost every month there is something new and that makes us nervous about delivery."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It's my understanding that our company is charged a few hundred dollars on a monthly basis.""I find that Amazon AWS is expensive.""The Oracle licensing is higher than it is with Amazon AWS.""I think they've done a pretty good job with their pricing.""Its price is kind of okay. When we do a migration from on-premises to the cloud, we typically use the lift-and-shift model. Based on the studies that we have done, cost savings are definitely there when we moved from on-premises to the cloud.""The price could be lower.""There are many variables involved in pricing service in AWS and overall the pricing is a bit on the higher side.""AWS is not an expensive product."

"SAP's pricing is usually high compared to the competition. But this is also justified because they hold their products and services to quite high standards.""The pricing can be negotiated.""The cost when it comes to monitoring can be difficult."

Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS), is a collection of cloud computing services, also called web services, that make up a cloud-computing platform offered by Amazon.com. These services operate from 12 geographical regions across the world. The most central and well-known of these services arguably include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, also known as "EC2", and Amazon Simple Storage Service, also known as "S3". Amazon markets AWS as a service to provide large computing capacity more quickly and more cheaply than a client company building an actual physical server farm.

SAP HANA Cloud Platform powers applications that deliver real-time insights to drive more effective and timely decision making. The product promises to accelerate analytics, business processes, sentiment data processing, and predictive capabilities.
