Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable feature is definitely the ability that Devo has to ingest data. From the previous SIEM that I came from and helped my company administer, it really was the type of system where data was parsed on ingest. This meant that if you didn't build the parser efficiently or correctly, sometimes that would bring the system to its knees. You'd have a backlog of processing the logs as it was ingesting them.""Being able to build and modify dashboards on the fly with Activeboards streamlines my analyst time because my analysts aren't doing it across spreadsheets or five different tools to try to build a timeline out themselves. They can just ingest it all, build a timeline out across all the logging, and all the different information sources in one dashboard. So, it's a huge time saver. It also has the accuracy of being able to look at all those data sources in one view. The log analysis, which would take 40 hours, we can probably get through it in about five to eight hours using Devo.""The real-time analytics of security-related data are super. There are a lot of data feeds going into it and it's very quick at pulling up and correlating the data and showing you what's going on in your infrastructure. It's fast. The way that their architecture and technology works, they've really focused on the speed of query results and making sure that we can do what we need to do quickly. Devo is pulling back information in a fast fashion, based on real-time events.""Those 400 days of hot data mean that people can look for trends and at what happened in the past. And they can not only do so from a security point of view, but even for operational use cases. In the past, our operational norm was to keep live data for only 30 days. Our users were constantly asking us for at least 90 days, and we really couldn't even do that. That's one reason that having 400 days of live data is pretty huge. As our users start to use it and adopt this system, we expect people to be able to do those long-term analytics.""It's very, very versatile.""Devo provides a multi-tenant, cloud-native architecture. This is critical for managed service provider environments or multinational organizations who may have subsidiaries globally. It gives organizations a way to consolidate their data in a single accessible location, yet keep the data separate. This allows for global views and/or isolated views restricted by access controls by company or business unit.""The user experience [is] well thought out and the workflows are logical. The dashboards are intuitive and highly customizable.""The user interface is really modern. As an end-user, there are a lot of possibilities to tailor the platform to your needs, and that can be done without needing much support from Devo. It's really flexible and modular. The UI is very clean."

"The solution is stable.""There are multiple tools for information security. The solution includes all the latest advances on the network and host intrusion detection systems.""Asset discovery and vulnerability scanner are good features. The integration between this solution and OTX, which is an AlienVault platform for Open Threat Exchange, is also a valuable feature. It is also quick and easy to deploy, so you can quickly engage with a customer's environment.""We're using it more for reporting, that's all. We're using it to help our customers to pass any kind of audits that they receive.""In terms of monitoring, my best feature would be the monitoring of components across the network. It monitors the respective nodes and any new node that comes onto the network and provides reports. The reporting dashboards are really helpful for management in terms of making decisions around patch management.""The setup is very easy and straightforward.""The other big selling feature for us was its integration capabilities with all the other security-based products.""The solution has all the features that we need, however they do not work correctly."

"The best part of this solution is having a third-party SOC.""I have found IBM QRadar to be scalable.""Most valuable features include the granularity of information.""The most valuable thing about QRadar is that you have a single window into your network, SIEM, network flows, and risk management of your assets. If you use Splunk, for instance, then you still need a full packet capture solution, whereas the full packet capture solution is integrated within QRadar. Its application ecosystem makes it very powerful in terms of doing analysis.""The solution is relatively easy to use.""The most valuable aspect of the solution is the integration capabilities on offer.""The features that I have found most valuable are that it is very stable, easy to get going, and easy to manage. It is also easy to review all incidents.""Technical support is good overall."

Cons
"Their documentation could be better. They are growing quickly and need to have someone focused on tech writing to ensure that all the different updates, how to use them, and all the new features and functionality are properly documented.""One major area for improvement for Devo... is to provide more capabilities around pre-built monitoring. They're working on integrations with different types of systems, but that integration needs to go beyond just onboarding to the platform. It needs to include applications, out-of-the-box, that immediately help people to start monitoring their systems. Such applications would include dashboards and alerts, and then people could customize them for their own needs so that they aren't starting from a blank slate.""The Activeboards feature is not as mature regarding the look and feel. Its functionality is mature, but the look and feel is not there. For example, if you have some data sets and are trying to get some graphics, you cannot change anything. There's just one format for the graphics. You cannot change the size of the font, the font itself, etc.""There's room for improvement within the GUI. There is also some room for improvement within the native parsers they support. But I can say that about pretty much any solution in this space.""I would like to have the ability to create more complex dashboards.""Technical support could be better.""From our experience, the Devo agent needs some work. They built it on top of OS Query's open-source framework. It seems like it wasn't tuned properly to handle a large volume of Windows event logs. In our experience, there would definitely be some room for improvement. A lot of SIEMs on the market have their own agent infrastructure. I think Devo's working towards that, but I think that it needs some improvement as far as keeping up with high-volume environments.""There's always room to reduce the learning curve over how to deal with events and machine data. They could make the machine data simpler."

More Devo Cons »

"The solution is a bit complicated. It could be simplified quite a bit.""I've been using it just for my own personal upskilling in terms of how the product works. At the moment, it is pretty straightforward and simple, and it is working how it is supposed to. The feedback would come once it is deployed to customer sites. They'll be using it on a more frequent basis, and that's when the feedback would come in terms of the areas in which they're facing issues or are looking for simplicity.""The solution already has quite good tools, however, they need better integration tools for linking with Office 365, Google Suite, and so on.""Its reporting tools need improvements. It would be good if they can provide integration with other ticketing systems. Currently, we only have integration with Slack and Jira. It is also a bit slow, and its replication engine can be improved.""I'd like to see a dashboard that's a little more descriptive.""There could be some type of integration with our existing portal. We have our own customer portals, and it would be good if there was an integration so that our portal can provide reports. There could be some type of API into the AlienVault system with the USM system so that it is easy to show the customers high-level reports of the system through our portal.""The reporting is mediocre and is something that needs to be improved.""In the future, I would like to see all these features of the solution working properly."

More AT&T AlienVault USM Cons »

"If you have too many events that occur, then the storage capacity becomes a problem. You need to have more storage.""I need a solution which will send alerts in the event of any behavior.""The pricing of the solution is a bit high. If they could lower it, that would be ideal.""IBM QRadar has a margin for development, for out-of-the-box use cases. It can be enhanced with better support and automate the use cases for that.""It's resource-intensive.""The user interface is a bit clunky, a bit hard to find what you need.""The solution is highly used here in Pakistan and in many sectors, they could improve it by having more SIEM connectors.""The initial setup requires that you have somebody with the proper skill set, and it would help if the configuration were easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Devo is definitely cheaper than Splunk. There's no doubt about that. The value from Devo is good. It's definitely more valuable to me than QRadar or LogRhythm or any of the old, traditional SIEMs.""Be cautious of metadata inclusion for log types in pricing, as there are some "gotchas" with that.""Our licensing fees are billed annually and per terabyte.""It's a per gigabyte cost for ingestion of data. For every gigabyte that you ingest, it's whatever you negotiated your price for. Compared to other contracts that we've had for cloud providers, it's significantly less.""I'm not involved in the financial aspect, but I think the licensing costs are similar to other solutions. If all the solutions have a similar cost, Devo provides more for the money.""Devo was very cost-competitive... Devo did come with that 400 days of hot data, and that was not the case with other products.""I like the pricing very much. They keep it simple. It is a single price based on data ingested, and they do it on an average. If you get a spike of data that flows in, they will not stick it to you or charge you for that. They are very fair about that.""[Devo was] in the ballpark with at least a couple of the other front-runners that we were looking at. Devo is a good value and, given the quality of the product, I would expect to pay more."

"Its price is much lower than McAfee ESM.""The licensing fees are dependent on usage.""I don't know exactly, but I know it is based on the number of logs and the retention duration, such as 30 days or something like that. So, the smallest package is about 500 a month for 30 days of logs. There is a virtual machine. You need resources for it. It is a log collecting VM. They provide the software, and you just have to load a virtual machine. So, you're going to incur some CPU RAM and storage for wherever this log collecting appliance is running, which typically is in our cloud and on our platform for the customer.""Its price is in the medium to upper range.""The price of this solution is reasonable, which is one of the reasons why we selected it over other solutions.""The price for this solution is very good, but since the features do not work the price is expensive."

More AT&T AlienVault USM Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It would be great if this product were cheaper.""When compared with other SIM solutions, QRadar is considerably less expensive.""It's very expensive but it fits our budget.""It could be cheaper, but the value itself is far more important for us than the price. Typically, our clients have yearly subscriptions.""The solution is priced fairly, there is a license for the solution, and we pay annually.""We use QRadar as a managed service and we pay licensing fees to the partner.""I think that the price is fair, but we can always say that the price could be cheaper.""The price could be better. I bought a subscription for three years."
