Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The best aspect of the solution is its backup functionality.""One of the most valuable features is security and connectivity to the data.""The initial setup was very easy.""I like that it's a stable solution and their support is good. I think Microsoft's commercial force is superior.""We are happy with this product and have not found any issues while using it.""First of all, you can schedule a backup for the client. You can schedule it as you like. You can also control the bandwidth, so the backup will not utilize. The internet will depend on the bandwidth.""It is easy to schedule backups.""I have no issues with the stability at all. So I don't necessarily care about the stability of the product. I look more at whether or not can I recover. And I haven't had a failed recovery yet. I've got no failed recoveries of all my years."

"We have multiple workloads, including SQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, especially Sybase, as well as file systems, VMs, and Exchange mailboxes. Commvault provides very good support for them.""Commvault has a unique administration platform with more features than its competitors.""Commvault's Command Center is one of the best solutions out there. You can rely on Commvault solutions for the most complex and most demanding environments.""Commvault's many features can be explored to get more value from more solutions.""Scalability, as well as stability, are a couple of important parts of this solution.""It's very user-friendly. It supports a wide range of workloads. It's quite easy to use, it's very powerful and it's scalable.""The backup and restore capabilities are key. The most useful things to us about Commvault, in general, is the breadth of the applications that it can protect as well as the features inside of it, like deduplication and encryption. When people get their data encrypted, Commvault has a way to tell if somebody is being attacked through a cybersecurity threat because their data changes. So, Commvault has what they call honeypot files out there to look to see if anybody is changing these files. Only Commvault knows which files those are, so nobody should be messing with those files. If it changes, then it will alert you to say, "Oh, I potentially have somebody messing with my files." It will alert you to something going on in your environment that probably shouldn't be happening. We deploy that with all our customers so they have this capability as well.""The recovery features are useful. It is easy to recover data. If something happens, we can easily recover data. We have faced ransomware issues twice, and we recovered because of Commvault."

Cons
"The solution is still in its infancy; it's not a mature product yet.""Technical support is in need of improvement.""The time required to restore files should be a little faster.""The monitoring and tagging features could be improved.""The solution is quite technical. I wouldn't describe it as user friendly. It could be simplified a lot to make it more accessible to the average user.""To make it a ten, it should have the ability to extend the retention and to perform a copy of the data outside of the subscription - with no additional costs.""We would like to see some kind of notification given to the user that a file was not synchronized well or what may have happened.""I once tried restoring a Linux environment, and the size of the Linux VM or the data disk was really huge. It took a really long time to restore the environment and send the data from the storage to the disk. It took around 25 to 30 minutes, which was much longer than I anticipated. They can improve the duration of such restore operations. In the next release, it would also be good if they could reduce the duration for transferring the data from their storage to the actual storage while creating a virtual machine. They can reduce the duration or increase the data transfer rate."

"There is room for improvement in terms of data security.""Setup is complex.""Just to keep it running is time-consuming. There are five people on my team. Commvault was supposed to be one of the less time-consuming solutions, but in reality it takes 60 percent of our time just to keep it running, and that's not even fine-tuning it; that's just to keep it running.""The initial setup is rather complex, especially when switching versions.""Persistent binding is a feature that I would like to see in the next release of Commvault.""It is a little more complicated than it really needs to be.""The only problem is that some of what we snap most of is the VMs. We found about 10% of the VMs that we can't snap because they're too interactive. It actually causes the application to crash.""Could be easier to implement."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Support payment works by the level of partnership and the number of shares.""This is an expensive solution in the Bangladesh marketplace.""Price-wise, it's similar to AWS.""The price is pretty good, maybe $30 for a machine, I can't complain.""The price is somewhat high and could be lower.""We are paying about $100,000 USD per year, just for a couple of servers.""It is a bit costly initially, but it is well worth it in the long run, especially for fighting against a number of threats, such as ransomware, which the IT industry is facing."

"We work with Commvault and a partner on our environment needs according to capacity, licensing, pricing, components, modules, etc. Additional costs depend on your backup needs.""Commvault licensing is a perpetual license so only the support is being renewed yearly.""Compared with other backup technologies, Commvault is a bit more costly, but we are satisfied with the support, the services, and the features that we get with Commvault.""The licensing costs are determined on a yearly basis. It might be around $40,000 or $50,000. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""The price is a little bit high.""It is cheaper than NetBackup, but its price can be lower. If a good solution can be cheaper, it is always an advantage. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""It would not be affordable for small to medium size organizations.""The price could always be lower."
