Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It is easy to schedule backups.""The initial setup was very easy.""I have no issues with the stability at all. So I don't necessarily care about the stability of the product. I look more at whether or not can I recover. And I haven't had a failed recovery yet. I've got no failed recoveries of all my years.""The fact that Azure Backup is integrated is one of its biggest advantages.""It's very simple to configure which is very useful. It's not complex to configure it.""First of all, you can schedule a backup for the client. You can schedule it as you like. You can also control the bandwidth, so the backup will not utilize. The internet will depend on the bandwidth.""The best aspect of the solution is its backup functionality.""The most valuable feature is the ease in which it backs up our data."

"IBM support is friendly, knowledgeable, and they always respond quickly. They've always been able to find the cause of my problem.""Their GUI has improved quite a bit. It's made the solution a lot simpler and less complex.""Good user interface.""It's very robust and has been on the market for a long time.""You can scale the product.""Its incremental forever approach is valuable, so we don't have to load tapes to do a restore.""The backup is very good. In other backup systems, you need a lot of storage to gain the same backup policy.""We have been using it for several years, and it is quite reliable and predictable. We are quite comfortable with this solution. They're coming up with new features as well. It has good scalability, and it provides good integrations with business-critical applications or databases, such as SAP HANA. It works as expected, and we don't see any issues."

Cons
"They need to improve the frequency of the backup. You can only backup one to three times a day. It would be better to back up continuously throughout the day.""Technical support is in need of improvement.""I would like to see better integration with more products, and more services.""On-prem can be complex to set up but the cloud is simple.""To make it a ten, it should have the ability to extend the retention and to perform a copy of the data outside of the subscription - with no additional costs.""The time required to restore files should be a little faster.""The monitoring and tagging features could be improved.""The compression ratio of the backup data should be improved."

"This product comes up against other products available that are marketed better but the other products that it's in competition with are a single product and this is one of IBM products. If it could be marketed as more for competitors I think that's where it comes short.""The interface could be more user-friendly.""Its management part can be better and simplified. It is kind of a beast as compared to Commvault or Veeam, but they are more user-friendly. They are also easier to learn, whereas Spectrum Protect definitely takes time. They should simplify it. Our teams are pretty comfortable with it because we have been using it for a long time, but from the perspective of a new user who is evaluating or using this solution, it is definitely more complex in terms of manageability. Its monitoring could be improved so that it can even monitor the jobs that are scheduled by external schedulers. There are situations where a database team might decide to use their own schedulers, but currently, Spectrum Protect is not able to catch those jobs in the Operation Manager console.""It does what we need it to do, but it could be better with VM backups. It could be better integrated with virtual machines or VM backups, but that's why they have their Plus out now. Plus version is more geared toward VM backups. The regular version is more for endpoint clients.""It would be helpful if the solution included some sort of ransomware protection.""The solution should have better integration with VMware and with IBM Spectrum Protect Plus.""In terms of features, they've got it all covered. The features they have are quite good. The only downside to it is that it is for an enterprise or big organization. In my opinion, it is not for a small business.""They can include more cloud-enriching features. I would like IBM Spectrum Protect to have the functionality for backing up a VM directly in Azure. I would like to be able to back up a VM directly in Azure without spinning up a Hyper-V cluster and backing up the virtual server."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price is pretty good, maybe $30 for a machine, I can't complain.""It is a bit costly initially, but it is well worth it in the long run, especially for fighting against a number of threats, such as ransomware, which the IT industry is facing.""Support payment works by the level of partnership and the number of shares.""We are paying about $100,000 USD per year, just for a couple of servers.""The price is somewhat high and could be lower.""Price-wise, it's similar to AWS.""This is an expensive solution in the Bangladesh marketplace."

More Azure Backup Pricing and Cost Advice »

"That's a hard estimate. It depends on the licensing, the hardware, and other stuff, but it is fairly expensive. It is generally more expensive than other solutions.""It is expensive.""I don't have an idea about the pricing. They send that over to someone else, but I know that one of the issues they had was the licensing costs. I don't think they were happy with how they were charged.""When compared to the cost of other enterprise products, it seems to be in the same range. However, compared to the cost of non-enterprise products, it is really high.""The pricing model of this solution is another difficult area, it's very sophisticated in the way they charge. It's based on PBU, which is a type of processor, how, many processors, and you need to put everything into an equation. However, they have different ways of charging or licensing. One way is a back-end volume or front-end volume, which is quite complicated.""One can go with either a PVU licensing model or a capacity based licensing model. Either solution does not block the usage, if over used.""It's very complicated. Licensing is a pain.""The solution is expensive."
