We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Bacula is pretty stable.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization."

"The solution just works consistently. I never have issues with it.""The solution does a good job with VM backups.""It is a flexible, simple, and scalable software-based solution. It has agentless functionality with specific hypervisors and agent-based functionality with specific operating systems. It gives you the flexibility to use your own hardware and back up physical Windows, Linux, IBM AIX, and Oracle Solaris systems as well as VMware VMs, Hyper-V VMs, and Nutanix VMs from one console. It also has integration with major applications that most companies are using, such as Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, or SharePoint. It has integrations, not just for the backup on the image, host layer, or hypervisor, but also for performing an application-consistent backup. It is helpful in backing up to the tape, cloud, DR site, etc. It is really flexible. It is really amazing that you can restore any backup on VMware, Azure, or AWS. As compared to the other solutions in the market. Veeam has really integrated a lot in the past years. It has the best performance and perfect replication.""It's fairly easy to manage and set up.""They provide good technical support and we are satisfied with the support we have received.""The initial setup was very easy.""The replication feature has proven to be the most valuable feature for us.""The most valuable feature is that I can back up the whole machine and then restore it relatively fast."

Cons
"We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy."

"The implementation of the features can be improved. Currently, there is no segregation of duty. Normally, any backup software or client service software is implemented in a way where one person is responsible for the implementation of the server, and one is responsible for the client, but Veeam Backup & Replication is not implemented in that way. Therefore, restores don't work like that. The backup guys have to do the restores, which is not a good thing. Its pricing should also be improved. It is quite expensive.""If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail.""The solution is rather weak when it comes to database integration.""In the future, I would like to see better support for direct backup to tape.""It is always nice to get products cheaper.""I would like to see the replication and a recovery plan of the servers in the cloud. It's very important.""I prefer a software backup solution that allows me to easily define my origin data, including data files, folders, and virtual machines.""The Veeam backup application interface is application-based and not web-based."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have a perpetual license.""This is an open-source solution."

"It is always nice to get products cheaper. Technically, it saves you a lot of money. If you wanted to buy the same functionality out of vSphere, you would spend thousands to essentially get the same functionality.""This is not an expensive solution. It's on the cheaper side.""My understanding is that it is a fairly small price point.""Its software solution has a fee.""We have increased our scalability while being able to free up senior resources from recovery activities. I estimate our overall savings to about $20,000 per year.""Its price is reasonable for a big company or a big client. It is not too much. It is cheaper than VMware.""I understand from management that the DR component is too expensive.""It's the market price. It isn't expensive, nor is it cheap."
