Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Bacula is pretty stable.""It works great and it provides you with several standard tools to restore your backup, even after a big failure.""The most valuable features are the special plugins such as SAP HANA databases, Microsoft SQL, and various types of virtualization."

"The deduplication feature is useful. Deduplication and compression features are what I like about NetBackup.""It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us.""It's a good product, it does what we want it to do.""I like the cross-platform features.""I have found it to be the simplest solution to the market. It gives us a complete end to end solution. We are using this solution, Veritas Appliance and another one for access archiving. It is convenient to have all the support from one vendor.""The solution offers very good storage efficiency, so there's excellent compression and deduplication within the product that our clients really appreciate.""The most valuable feature is its stability.""It was especially useful with the appliances we use on a daily basis."

Cons
"We are looking for a unique interface that can rule both enterprise and open source editions. Such a thing does not yet exist.""Bacula needs a graphical user interface because, for administrators, the command-line interface is okay, but for the average user it is not very easy.""Easier setup and configuration, perhaps including a GUI, would be an improvement."

More Bacula Enterprise Cons »

"The deployment time is longer than it is with other products.""The speed of restoring data could be improved.""Planning for the implementation takes a lot of time.""It would be better if it had a cloud integration feature. I would like to use a single product for the cloud instances and the on-premise instances. The price could also be better.""The solution costs too much.""The support for new technologies is limited.""It's not a user-friendly solution. It's a little bit complicated. The UI is not very friendly.""It is a very expensive solution. They should have a different scheme for selling it. They should also make it easy for us to switch from Solaris to Linux. We are having some trouble in migrating our actual catalog from Solaris to Linux."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We have a perpetual license.""This is an open-source solution."

More Bacula Enterprise Pricing and Cost Advice »

"A better price would make this product more competitive.""The licensing fees are expensive.""It's expensive when comparing to other solutions on the market.""If you have a source size of one terabyte then they will charge for a one terabyte license, although what is actually being stored is much less.""Our primary complaint about this product is that it is too expensive.""It is very expensive. The licensing cost for this solution is on a yearly basis. It is approximately 50k. We will continue using it at least for the next year, but we are currently doing an analysis to switch to some other solution.""The price is okay.""It was on a yearly basis. During the annual review, when we asked them about our licensing, they couldn't explain it. For example, we had reduced by a factor of 40%, but our license only dropped by 5%. We would then ask Veritas people if we've reduced this much and shut down these servers, why has our license changed so less? They were never able to give us a straight answer. They weren't able to say, "Well, you're using this, and this is more expensive." In many cases, as we reduced our capacity and what we were using with Veritas NetBackup, our licensing actually went up, and they were often unable to explain why."
