Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""The feature set is fine and is rarely a problem.""You do not have to do everything through a command line which makes it a lot easier to apply rules.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening."

"Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable."

"The interface is user-friendly.""It's a flexible solution and is well-known in the community.""To be honest, all of the features that are provided, all the other vendor will also have. One feature we did find valuable was the CLI, it is more accurate. Additionally, I was happy with the customization, dashboards, access lists and interface.""It is a very stable product. I've not had any issues with it. It is a super product, and I won't need to change it anytime soon.""The whole firewall functionality, including firewall policies and IPS policies, is valuable. It has all kinds of functionalities. It has IPS, VPN, and other features. They are doing quite a lot of stuff with their devices.""On the network side, where you create your rules for allowing traffic — what can come inside and what can go out — that works perfectly, if you know what you want to achieve. It protects you.""I like all of the features.""The user interface, the UI, is excellent on the solution."

Cons
"We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""Deploying configurations takes longer than it should.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded."

"The analytics are weak.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""Command line could be more user friendly.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons »

"The price can be better.""It would be nice if you didn't have to configure using a command-line interface. It's a bit technical that way.""One of the problems that we have had is the solution requires Java to work. This has caused some problems with the application visibility and control. When the Java works, it is good, but Java wasn't a good choice. I don't like the Java implementation. It can be difficult to work with sometimes.""I would like the ability to drill down into certain reports because currently, that cannot be done.""I would say that in inexperienced hands, the interface can be kind of overwhelming. There are just a lot of options. Too much, if you don't know what you are looking for or trying to do.""They should improve their interface.""The user interface isn't as good as it could be. They should work to improve it. It would make it easier for customer management if it was easier to use.""I don't have to see all the object groups that have been created on that firewall. That's just something that I would really appreciate on the CLA, even though it already exists on the GUI."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""This product is expensive.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees.""The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model.""The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"We have a perpetual license for all of our firewalls. For some of the features, we purchase them on demand. The pricing is decent but it could always be cheaper, we would be happier.""Its price is moderate. It is not too expensive.""It is affordable. The hardware is not that expensive anymore. It is a matter of licensing these days.""It is expensive. There is a cost for everything. There is per year license cost and support cost. There is also a cost for any training, any application, and any resource. Things are very costly to do with Cisco. Other brands are cheaper. They are also more flexible in terms of training, subscription, and licensing. They give lots and lots of years free. They provide more than Cisco.""We sell Cisco ASA Firewall as a bundle — the price is very cheap. If a customer were to go for renewal direct from Cisco, then the price would be quite high.""The product is very expensive.""They have a lot of different models but most of them are really expensive.""We're using the smart license for this firewall. The models that we have require licensing for remote access."
