We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""The implementation is pretty straightforward.""Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality."

"Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable."

"There are lots of features and most of them are deployed for internet security. Users are protected if they accidentally go to some malicious sites.""The web filtering feature and the intrusion protection system are the most valuable. It is a resilient appliance. I never had an issue with it in terms of any security breaches.""It's user-friendly and easy to operate.""The next-gen features, the unified threat management capabilities are something that just about everybody is interested in at this point.""The most valuable features are the possibility of having one fabric for switching on security.""I think that the UTM features are the most value, as it truly protects my infrastructure.""I like Fortinet FortiGate's antispam filter, SPN, and clustering features.""The solution is stable."

Cons
"The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me."

"The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""The analytics are weak.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""Command line could be more user friendly.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons »

"The pricing could be reduced or include the first year warranty.""The command line is complicated, and the interface could be better.""The cloud features can be improved.""Technical support is good but the response time could be faster.""Backup can be improved.""The setup is pretty complex and not easy to implement.""The solution could be more evenly structured.""It's my understanding that more of the current generation features could be brought in. There could be more integration with EDRs, for example."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees.""The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year.""The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"For our organization, the licensing costs are approximately $7,000 per year.""It is too expensive for us. My organization is very small, and we have a total of ten users. We have three internal users and seven external users. The FortiGate 100D series is too expensive for renewing the licenses.""The price of FortiGate support is too expensive.""Setup cost may be not so low, as you expect, because it depends on different factors, but TCO for 5 years may pleasantly surprise you.""They are very competitive, but we like to have the factory warranty taken care of.""It has a competitive price.""It's an expensive solution.""The licensing costs are very low."
