We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""The feature set is fine and is rarely a problem."

"Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features.""Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features."

"Tech support is willing to go the extra mile to resolve issues.""The most valuable feature is application awareness.""I can manage it very well and in a very easy way.""Meraki SD-WAN is a very stable and scalable solution with good technical support.""Because it's a cloud-based network infrastructure, everything is done in the cloud, so I don't need to be on-site physically to be able to troubleshoot or resolve an issue. I can be anywhere and resolve an issue.""I like the entire set of features and the analytics.""I have found the dashboard very useful, you can configure all of your devices at the same time by just changing some menus.""We have found the scalability to be good."

Cons
"I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""Deploying configurations takes longer than it should.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""The analytics are weak.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""Command line could be more user friendly.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons »

"The solution needs to enact more advanced protections.""The security and upgrading could improve in this solution.""There could be more options for integration between other devices — sort of being able to more easily make everything integrated in one solution.""The VPN client could be improved.""The default classes should be expanded.""I think they should enhance the security.""There are literally things you cannot do at this point in a graphical user interface that can be done from a command line.""When there is an issue, I find it difficult to figure out what is going wrong because the logs do not provide as much information as solutions from HP."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model.""Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees.""The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"If you purchase a Meeraki box, you have to purchase a license, and it's already the basic license, you will have you SD-WAN included.""The licensing fees are approximately $1,000 USD annually.""The pricing is fair, but if they can make it less it would be even more attractive.""like everything else, it's negotiable.""Meraki solutions come with a choice of several different subscription options including one year, three years, five years, seven years, and ten years.""From the perspective of the customer, the price is not terribly cost-effective.""This solution is more expensive than competitors.""Any license you buy until January 2021 gets you an extra year for that purchase."
