We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""The most important feature is the intensive way you can troubleshoot Cisco Firepower Firewalls. You can go to the bit level to see why traffic is not handled in the correct way, and the majority of the time it's a networking issue and not a firewall issue. You can solve any problem without Cisco TAC help, because you can go very deeply under the hood to find out how traffic is flowing and whether it is not flowing as expected. That is something I have never seen with other brands.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""I have experience with URL filtering, and it is very good for URL filtering. You can filter URLs based on the categories, and it does a good job. It can also do deep packet inspection."

"Good identity fire walling, malware protection and application control features.""Scalability is good; the company wants to be able to handle large customers.""Their GPS possibilities and the security that it has, especially the SD-WAN functionality, is very good.""Its stability and SD-WAN features are the most valuable.""The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""Its ability to block incoming attacks is valuable. Its logging, traffic monitoring, and VPN capabilities are also valuable.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""What I like best about this product are the support and the features."

"With the main firewall routing there, we can do connectivity point-to-point. On the low bandwidth we can connect in all the branches with my corporate office.""The most valuable features have been content filtering, and the interface is easy to navigate and to use.""Ease of management and the VPN integration.""We are able to block whatever we want to block by using this product. It provides all required security features, such as content filtering, VPN, in one box. Before switching to SonicWall, we had specified all required features.""The solution boasts good performance and is easy to use.""Offers the right amount of control without being incredibly convoluted and frustrating.""It's been very easy to implement and deploy.""Its user interface and simplicity are the most favorite parts for our clients. They find it stable and easy to use. Its performance is also good."

Cons
"Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment.""The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do. Cisco already has an on-premises sandbox solution.""Deploying configurations takes longer than it should.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second."

"Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""If you experience an attack it can take a very long time to find a solution.""The analytics are weak.""Command line could be more user friendly.""The administration UI could be better. It should also have better application detection policies.""If you have another brand of VPN where you have to put an SSL VPN between two devices, Barracuda doesn't support that at a certain point. You can't actually build the VPN between Barracuda and a different device of a different brand.""The biggest issue that I have with this solution is that it is not super intuitive. Once you know what to do, things make sense, but you can't just open the program and start doing things. It would be great if there was a little bit more guided usage inside the program.""The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons »

"Its reporting can be improved. Currently, we cannot directly get the user names. It only shows the IP, which makes it a bit confusing because we need to use the IP to find the user. If we could directly get the name of the user, it would be better.""The monitoring is a little bit confusing.""In terms of what needs to be improved, I would say better load balancing and data filtering.""The areas we would like to see improvement include more features available similar to the equivalent FortiGate appliance, e.g. SSL encryption and inspection. Two-factor authentication capability would be another additional feature that could be included in the next release.""There is a point I don't like about SonicWall in the past and now. Most of the destinations we look at when we're detecting some user using too much bandwidth or something like that, SonicWall just gave us destination IP address, instead of the full qualified domain name. I think that's the most important part that is still missing. I think that's the most important for us.""It could be made more user friendly.""Although the pricing is good, it could always be lower. If we get to pay less, we're happier.""The solution should provide some additional ports."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This product is expensive.""The price is comparable.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The solution costs more than 800 Euros to purchase an F18, which is an entry model, and then another 500 Euros for instant replacement, and 500 Euros for energized updates. The total package would be around 1,900 Euros for five years license and all updates for an entry model.""Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There is an upfront purchase price, and there is also an annual maintenance fee. There are no additional fees.""The 600 series is about USD $10,000 a year and the 80 is USD $400 a year."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution.""The price is fair.""It has a yearly subscription.""The price could be better for us in Bolivia.""The license that we purchased is good for three years.""You need to purchase multiple licenses to manage multiple devices which is cost-prohibitive for the value you would receive.""The price is fair for the solution for the quality you receive.""Its pricing is okay as compared to other solutions."
