Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""The feature set is fine and is rarely a problem.""The most valuable feature is stability.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening.""The most valuable features of this solution are advanced malware protection, IPS, and IDS.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective."

"The most valuable feature is that it's secure.""The most important feature is the VPN connection.""The most valuable features are the provision of internet access, AnyConnect, and VPN capabilities.""The traffic inspection and the Firepower engine are the most valuable features. It gives you full details, application details, traffic monitoring, and the threats. It gives you all the containers the user is using, especially at the application level. The solution also provides application visibility and control.""The whole firewall functionality, including firewall policies and IPS policies, is valuable. It has all kinds of functionalities. It has IPS, VPN, and other features. They are doing quite a lot of stuff with their devices.""The solution is excellent for enterprise-level networks.""Unfortunately in Cisco, only the hardware was good.""It's very stable and mature."

"I like the tunneling part which we are using for the VOIP. We have various other sites where we connect via tunneling. The tunneling part is very fast and easy to implement.""The installation is easy. There is a wizard that can be used for a single connection making it simple and if you have multiple connections you can configure it manually.""The most valuable features are the central management, the user VPN, and communications.""IPS and advanced threat protection (ATP) are the most valuable features. I am able to segment my network traffic and block incoming connections. It is also easy to use.""The web application firewall reverse proxy is very good.""I have found the solution easy to use and fully integrated.""It is very easy to configure and straightforward. The firewall rules are straightforward. It works great out of the box. It has been working as advertised, and I haven't had any issues with it.""The initial setup is straightforward."

Cons
"FirePOWER does a good job when it comes to providing us with visibility into threats, but I would like to see a more proactive stance to it.""An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""They need a VTI. I know it's going to be available in the next software version, which is the 6.7 version. However, the problem with that is that the 6.7 is going to deprecate all the older IKEv1 deployment tunnels. Therefore, the problem is that we have a lot of customers which are using older encryptions. If I do that, update it, it's not going to work for me.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""When you make any changes, irrespective of whether they are big or small, Firepower takes too much time. It is very time-consuming. Even for small changes, you have to wait for 60 seconds or maybe more, which is not good. Similarly, when you have many IPS rules and policies, it slows down, and there is an impact on its performance."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"If they want to add better features to the current Cisco ASA, they can start by increasing the encryption. That is the only thing they need to improve.""The configuration is an area that needs improvement.""If the implementation was easier, it would be a lot better for us.""I think the ASA layer is thin. It's always Layer 3 or Layer 4 source controller and doesn't control the Layer 7 traffic. It's important, and you'll need an additional firewall.""Technical support takes a long time to respond.""Comparing Cisco solution to others, it is expensive, it would be better for it to be cheaper.""We have more than one Cisco firewall and it is difficult for me to integrate both on the single UI.""This is an older product and has reached end-of-life."

More Cisco ASA Firewall Cons »

"It is already secure but it could be better in terms of other breaches that may occur.""The interface could be simplified and diagnostic system graphs improved.""The logging side of it could definitely be better. Some of the logging lacks, and the information that they provide you, especially in the spam filtering section, could be better.""Everything is working as expected at this moment, but the anti-spam solution in Sophos XG needs to be improved. It needs more granular features and more stability. The anti-spam solution currently doesn't have many features, and we would like to have more features. At this moment, there is no expression filter for anti-spam. We need something to be able to filter subjects or attachments in emails based on the keyword. Sometimes, there is an issue with anti-spam, and Sophos XG suddenly stops processing incoming or outgoing emails. The only solution for this issue is to restart the appliance. Their support should be improved. It takes a long time to escalate a support case from level one to level two.""Technical support is difficult to access.""Their tech support is not great.""It would be better if they made their own hardware like Palo Alto and Fortinet. They use their own ASICs and claim it is more secure.""An area of improvement would be the reporting as diagnostic graphs take a long time to load and refresh. If there could be an option to show only select graphs, it may speed up the graphics."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""This product is expensive."

"This is an expensive product, although when you buy this solution, you can do many things so it provides good value for the investment.""In terms of costs, other solutions are more expensive than Cisco. Palo Alto is more expensive than Cisco.""It's a brilliant firewall, and the fact that it comes with a perpetual license really does go far in terms of helping the organization in not having to deal with those costs on an annual basis. That is a pain point when it comes to services like the ones we have on Fortigate. That's where we really give Cisco firewalls the thumbs up.""Its price is moderate. It is not too expensive.""If we compare it with FortiGate and the co-existing ASA, FortiGate is better in price.""The price is fair. It's not the cheapest, but it's not bad.""Cisco is expensive, but you do get benefits for the price.""I just bought it off the shelf, and I'm using it with my previous one, so I have not spent that much."

More Cisco ASA Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price is reasonable but it would be great if it was reduced to half the price.""The pricing is economical.""The solution is not expensive since one pays as he goes.""We have a three-year license.""The price of Sophos is reasonable. It's not too expensive — I think it's worth it.""There is no license required to use this solution.""The price is fair.""Sophos XG isn't expensive compared to Check Point."
