We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"We have not had to deal with stability issues.""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""Web filtering is a big improvement for us. The previous version we used, the AC520, did not have that feature included. It was not very easy for us, especially because the environment had to be isolated and we needed to get updates from outside, such as Windows patches. That feature has really helped us when we are going outside to pull those patches.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be.""Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS.""The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic."

"One of the valuable features of the solution is its flexibility and it performs great.""It covers everything we need it to without looking to secondary solutions.""One of the main features is that the hardware is extremely reliable.""Cisco is head-and-shoulders above all of the competition when it comes to technical support.""We are able to filter a lot of traffic especially when a lot of the traffic is in layer 7.""Completely integrates branch offices with perimeter security.""The solution is very user-friendly and easy to deal with.""The technical is excellent."

Cons
"The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""The performance should be improved.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do. Cisco already has an on-premises sandbox solution.""FlexConfig is there as a bridge for features that are not yet natively integrated into Firepower. It is a way of allowing you to be able to configure things that wouldn't otherwise be possible until the development team can add them into Firepower's native capability. There is still some work that needs to be done around FlexConfig. There are still quite a few complex things, like policy-based routing, that have to be done in FlexConfig, and it doesn't always work perfectly. Sometimes, there are some glitches. It is recommended that you configure FlexConfig policies with Cisco TAC. It would be good to see Cisco accelerate some of those configurations that you can only do in FlexConfig into the platform, so that they are there natively.""Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment.""The change-deployment time can always be improved. Even at 50 seconds, it's longer than some of its competitors. I would challenge Cisco to continue to improve in that area."

"I think they should bring back remote VPN for users.""The configuration should be easier in the solution.""The user interface needs to be improved.""I would love it if it has a link-by-link feature, integration with Unified Threat Management (UTM), and load balancers. They haven't got any link-by-link feature right now, which can be a very attractive option. This link-by-link feature can also be made available for Cisco's UTM firewalls. The link-by-link feature is available in some of the other firewalls. Currently, integration with UTM is missing. Cisco IOS Security also doesn't have the load balancers and a few things that need to be done to get a good UTM firewall. Normally, other firewalls have UTM. As a next-generation firewall, it's good, but as a UTM, it has to do some work.""The company needs to make its solution more affordable to make it more accessible to larger markets. Otherwise, it's seen as an enterprise-level solution that small or medium-sized organizations can't afford and therefore they won't even look at it.""The pricing is the only con for this product.""It would be ideal if the solution had more capacity.""With respect to user-friendliness, it is a command-line interface and those with such experience will get along just fine, whereas others may struggle."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"We normally license on a yearly basis. The hardware procurement cost should be considered. If you're virtual maybe that cost is eradicated and just the licensing cost is applied. If you have hardware the cost must be covered by you. All the shipping charges will be paid by you also. I don't thing there are any other hidden charges though.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case."

"The price of the solution should be cheaper, and the license is purchase annually.""It is necessary to pay for a license in order to use the solution. It is on a yearly basis and the price is high.""It is an expensive solution.""The pricing is okay. It is competitive. It costs more when you need get more features.""Price is certainly something that the IOS technology has fallen behind the competition on.""Palo Alto networks are more expensive than this solution and this is why you will see more products like this one in Mexico."
