Comparison Summary
Question: How does Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall compare with Palo Alto Networks Wildfire?
Answer: The Cisco Firepower NGFW are a very robust and efficient firewalls. The only weak I can say is their Firepower Management Center, is a tool a bit slow, to tell the true the new versions go faster but I think they need to improve this tool, is very powerful in features but it needs to go a bit faster. As to Palo Alto I don't work with any yet, so I can't tell anything.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS.""Web filtering is a big improvement for us. The previous version we used, the AC520, did not have that feature included. It was not very easy for us, especially because the environment had to be isolated and we needed to get updates from outside, such as Windows patches. That feature has really helped us when we are going outside to pull those patches.""The feature set is fine and is rarely a problem.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening."

"The scalability is acceptable.""WildFire's application encryption is useful.""The most valuable feature is the cloud-based protection against zero-day malware attacks.""What I like about Palo Alto is that it is a complete product, with everything in it.""Remote access is excellent.""The most valuable feature of this solution is how it keeps up-to-date with viruses.""For example, if a security Intel threat talks about an IOC. We can then go to our MSP and say, "Is there a signature for this particular type of malware that just came out?" And if they'll say yes, then we'll say, "Okay. Does it apply to these firewalls? And have we seen any hits on it?" There's absolutely value in it.""The most valuable feature is the improved security that it offers."

Cons
"Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do. Cisco already has an on-premises sandbox solution.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""Report generation is an area that should be improved."

"It's not really their problem, it's a problem across the board. There will always be problems with interrupted traffic. We have to set it up where we're playing a middle man game where we're stripping it out, looking at it, and then putting it back together and sending it on its way. That requires CPU cycles. And there's some overhead with that.""In the future, I would like to see more automation in the reporting.""The size of Palo Alto's cloud is big but it could be easier to use from a product management perspective.""Our main concern is that everything has to be synced with the WildFire Cloud and has to be checked through the subscription.""The support is good but they could be faster.""When you contact support, there is no guarantee that they will be available to help you tackle the issue that you are facing.""The automation and responsiveness need improvement.""The system performance degrades after the solution has been deployed for some time. The data that it gives us becomes a little bit slow. When you try to get some data for troubleshooting, it seems like it's working hard to extract that data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""This product is expensive.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"This solution is very pricey and it depends on the package that you implement.""The pricing is highly expensive.""The solution is overpriced.""WildFire is a little bit pricey. Sometimes it's difficult to sell it to customers at the current price.""The price of the Palo Alto Networks WildFire license is expensive. When it came time to renew the solution the price doubled.""This is an expensive product and the market for Palo Alto in Poland could be much bigger if the pricing was comparable to Fortinet.""It depends on the features. Additional features cost additional money as well.""Pricing could be improved."
