We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be.""The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control."

"In four steps one can configure the entire firewall.""While the features are not dissimilar to other brands, configuration is much more simple, which works out great for Indonesian people.""Sangfor has the best capabilities for securing connections, securing web browsers, securing servers, and general threat protection.""It's a very simple to use product.""We've found the technical support to be helpful.""In terms of the most valuable features, the IPS report is quick and updated. Performance is also valuable."

Cons
"We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""The performance should be improved.""An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI)."

"The web interface needs to be improved, making it more user-friendly.""The solution has too many bugs and these slow down the implementation.""Occasional issues with breaches which are dealt with expediently.""I believe that IAM and NGFW need to merge into a single box, instead of there being two separate box solutions.""They need to increase the number of ports in the firewall."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""This product is expensive."
