We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic.""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""They wanted to leverage something which is equivalent that can give them the next gen features like application awareness and intrusion protection. So that is a major reason they were looking forward to this. The original ASA firewall did not have these features. This was the major reason the customer moved on to Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD). Now they can go ahead and leverage those functionalities.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution."

"Monitoring and reporting are areas that need improvement.""The stability, overall, is excellent. I haven't had a problem in the last two years.""It's a stable solution.""Technical support is very responsive.""Sophos UTM is the simplest of these products to setup.""What I like about the solution is the ease of use.""The most valuable features of this solution are the firewall application and application control.""It is a very good product. The threat monitoring process is the most valuable feature."

Cons
"I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""I believe that the current feature set of the device is very good and the only thing that Cisco should work on is improving the user experience with the device.""We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""FirePOWER does a good job when it comes to providing us with visibility into threats, but I would like to see a more proactive stance to it."

"Anti-phishing functionality should be improved.""It would be nice if it had basic features, such as DLP (Data Loss Prevention).""The logs are not clear, which means that you need an additional piece of software in order to read them clearly.""I think that additional metrics features are needed to be able to monitor other areas or to monitor as much as you can, at a fine-grain resolution.""Updates come out agonizingly slowly, a trickle.""The solution is not scalable.""The ease of use could be a bit better.""Sophos should improve its ability to check something like bandwidth consumption for users or something more real-time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""The price is comparable.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain."

"It is the cheapest product available. It's good if you have a low budget.""The prices can be better, they could make it a lot cheaper.""This product is free for home users. The more expensive products have better performance.""It's reasonably priced.""The appliance should be purchased and there is a fee for the license.""Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis.""It is necessary to pay for a licence to use the solution, but it is not very expensive.""We pay for the service on a yearly basis. The last time we paid was in June, for a year. At the time, it was about $20,000."
