We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic."

"One of the main features is that the hardware is extremely reliable.""The technical is excellent.""The hardware is pretty stable. It's also a very good product performance-wise. Initially, it wasn't mature like a firewall and there were other leaders, but now they have included almost all the features of next-generation security. Basically, it's a good product to work with.""Cisco is head-and-shoulders above all of the competition when it comes to technical support.""The solution is very user-friendly and easy to deal with.""The product is easy to use.""One of the valuable features of the solution is its flexibility and it performs great.""The capabilities for scalability with this product are huge"

"Firewall and overall management are valuable features.""The solution is very user friendly.""The main features I find useful are intrusion prevention and web filtering. Additionally, the solution is easy to manage.""Performance-wise, I think FortiOS is much better than its Juniper counterpart. Based on our actual experience and performance metrics, FortiOS-based products are much better than Juniper.""There are many useful features, such as web security and advanced threat detection.""The information security features are the most valuable.""There are a lot of features that we like within the solution. The resources or performance of the firewall is very good. However, the real selling point is the fact that the solution offers so many features, it gives our clients a lot of extras that they can work with. There's a lot on offer.""All networks are security-driven, we get throughputs and security. We feel that the people at Fortinet are easy to deal with from a support standpoint. If they need to jump in and help us, they're very willing to do that. Their email filtering, their data loss prevention, their intrusion prevention, type of products in the newest OSs has been outstanding."

Cons
"An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"With respect to user-friendliness, it is a command-line interface and those with such experience will get along just fine, whereas others may struggle.""The user interface needs to be improved.""The configuration should be easier in the solution.""I think they should bring back remote VPN for users.""The pricing is the only con for this product.""The company needs to make its solution more affordable to make it more accessible to larger markets. Otherwise, it's seen as an enterprise-level solution that small or medium-sized organizations can't afford and therefore they won't even look at it.""Signatures and other critical definitions need to be updated more frequently.""There could be a bit more functions on offer that could make it easier to use."

More Cisco IOS Security Cons »

"FortiOS doesn't work well with all browsers. I think they need to do a better job of making it compatible with the various browsers that are out there.""I can only compare it with SonicWall, and it is missing many advanced features that SonicWall has.""The implementation could be simplified.""Lacks flexibility for different scenario configurations.""It would be great if they can push the Microsoft updates through Fortinet OS and provide a centralized patch management system. They should also include the data loss prevention (DLP) and data leakage prevention features. They could also add network monitoring more effectively.""They're using a lot of application-specific IC, so that may be causing some performance issues. And whenever a Fortinet adds new features, it can affect performance.""It could more scalable for the lower end users.""The pricing model makes this product far more expensive than similar solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It is necessary to pay for a license in order to use the solution. It is on a yearly basis and the price is high.""The price of the solution should be cheaper, and the license is purchase annually.""It is an expensive solution.""Price is certainly something that the IOS technology has fallen behind the competition on.""Palo Alto networks are more expensive than this solution and this is why you will see more products like this one in Mexico.""The pricing is okay. It is competitive. It costs more when you need get more features."

More Cisco IOS Security Pricing and Cost Advice »

"There is a license required for the solution and the price is fair.""The price of Fortinet FortiOS has been reasonable.""The software costs roughly half what the hardware costs. Overall, the product is expensive.""The support contracts are usually about $100 - $200 a device."
