We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""There are additional implementation and validation costs."

"It is necessary to pay for a license in order to use the solution. It is on a yearly basis and the price is high.""Palo Alto networks are more expensive than this solution and this is why you will see more products like this one in Mexico.""The pricing is okay. It is competitive. It costs more when you need get more features.""Price is certainly something that the IOS technology has fallen behind the competition on.""It is an expensive solution.""The price of the solution should be cheaper, and the license is purchase annually."

Cisco IOS Software delivers a sophisticated set of security capabilities for a comprehensive, layered security approach throughout your network infrastructure. Cisco IOS security technologies help to defend critical business processes against attack and disruption, protect privacy, and support policy and regulatory compliance controls.

Tempered Networks leverages the Host Identity Protocol (HIP), a ratified open standard network security protocol recognized possibly the next big change in IP architecture. HIP enables a paradigm shift in networking that solves the broken trust model in IP networking by separating the role of an IP address as both host identity and location, where hosts are identified using permanent, location-independent cryptographic identities (CID). Now security is built-in from the beginning with verifiable authentication and end-to-end encryption.
