Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Some clients only want DNS security, while others want more of the advanced features that it has available.""It's very stable, reliable and does its job.""Helps block personal email accounts.""I like that it integrates with the infrastructure. I also like the kind of data and intelligence that's built-in. It helps create innovative reports for security.""There is much differentiation within the licensing so if anyone wants DNS security from the DNS security log, we are there already, and if anyone wants to go to a secure internet gateway, that is also available. We can get the integrated cloud DLP license keys. That is a good benefit with Cisco Umbrella. You can get a complete solution in a single licensing.""It analyzes the domain security helps us implement the securest policy.""We like Cisco Umbrella because of DNS security. It's one step ahead of whatever we are using for regular web filtering. In that way, it's more secure than other web filtering products.""The implementation is pretty easy."

"DHCP is a basic service, and they've been doing it for years, so it's mature and stable.""Infoblox offers granularity and advanced DNS protection to mitigate DNS attacks. It's a very secure solution.""The security of the solution is perfect. It's very good at protecting us from attacks."

Cons
"They need to improve analytics so they report on more of the specifics of user activity.""It's a very new product, so it's quite immature at the moment. It can be more user friendly.""There are cheaper solutions in the market""It could be more secure. It would be better if they provided a transferring proxy as an add-on and more integration.""I would like to see more integrability with other products.""The pricing could always be a little bit better.""The API is very Cisco orientated, which is absolutely fine if you're using Cisco Firepower and SecureX kind of products, but if you want to integrate with third parties, it is a bit tricky. There are some key API connectors for the more prevalent SIEM tools. I would really like to see in Cisco Umbrella the ability to create customized reports and then assign the rights to view these reports to people within a group. I should be able to create a customized report, which is viewable by anybody who has the rights. I should be able to create groups within Cisco Umbrella, and then assign reports to groups and have those reports split out automatically only to those groups. I can kind of do it by restricting my email list, but it is a half-complete way of doing it.""The price could be better. The price is definitely a bit high, but we have to pay a premium for Cisco products."

More Cisco Umbrella Cons »

"The solution is expensive.""There should be better alerts for when attacks are happening.""There needs to be more capabilities in order to configure the console itself instead of the user interface dashboard. Configuring the DNS or DHCP through the console instead of the GUI dashboard would be better."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price could be lower.""The price of Cisco Umbrella is a little higher than similar solutions, like Gateway.""Cisco uses subscription models for the pricing and there are three subscription plans.""The price is quite good.""I am not sure, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think it's $1.00 or so per device/month.""In the region I'm from, that of EMAR, Europe, the Middle East, Eastern Asia and Africa, our organizations do not have many liquid cash assets, so the price could be better.""The price depends on the use case, and it's a bit linear. But it depends on the customer's strategy and how Cisco plans to optimize the costs.""It has a reasonable price. It is certainly not as expensive as it used to be. It is in line with other offerings on the market. There are a number of different flavors of Umbrella. They could bring Umbrella SIG down a bit because its price is a little bit high for what it does, but I also understand why its price is high."
