Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The security and access control features.""What we like most is security and how easy it is to integrate with other appliances.""The most valuable feature is the ability to block users from reaching places that they should not even try to reach has been a boon.""It analyzes the domain security helps us implement the securest policy.""The initial setup is very easy and takes only a few minutes.""I like the original functionality, which allows for providing secure DNS services.""Web proxy adds an effective layer for security.""Helps block personal email accounts."

"We now have insight into our DNS requests and we can actively see how many thousands of malicious requests have gotten knocked down in the last day or week that we didn't have before. There's more insight for both security and more insight.""When comparing other cloud-based DNS security solutions to this one I have found the main beneficial feature in this solution to be we do not need to change our architecture.""The stability is excellent and the product is very mature.""The most valuable feature is DNS filtering."

Cons
"I would like to see more integrability with other products.""They need to improve analytics so they report on more of the specifics of user activity.""The reporting could be improved by way of the information that's displayed. For example, when you pull a report, it shows an internal employee going to many websites, but you can spin that right down by saying a lot of it is being cached.""We would like to see the enhancements made to the EDR, as we see features that are running endpoint management.""It has happened in the past that Cisco Umbrella has denied us access to secure websites.""User interface could be a little smoother and more intuitive.""The API is very Cisco orientated, which is absolutely fine if you're using Cisco Firepower and SecureX kind of products, but if you want to integrate with third parties, it is a bit tricky. There are some key API connectors for the more prevalent SIEM tools. I would really like to see in Cisco Umbrella the ability to create customized reports and then assign the rights to view these reports to people within a group. I should be able to create a customized report, which is viewable by anybody who has the rights. I should be able to create groups within Cisco Umbrella, and then assign reports to groups and have those reports split out automatically only to those groups. I can kind of do it by restricting my email list, but it is a half-complete way of doing it.""Looking at the full umbrella suite in the light of SASE, Secure Access Service Edge, they are clearly lacking in the inline CASB."

"There should be an on-premise version of this solution.""Every vendor that sells DNS or firewalls needs to be able to protect against DNS look-up attacks and DNS naming hacks. This is true of Palo Alto as well as others.""We would like to have cloud-based management.""I'm not really sure what needs improvement. The only hiccup I've really seen is a couple of the DNS requests get flagged as the Sophos traffic instead of DNS traffic, but that's more of their app detection in the DNS Security. I haven't really seen any issues with the DNS security."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price is quite good.""Cisco uses subscription models for the pricing and there are three subscription plans.""I am not sure, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think it's $1.00 or so per device/month.""The price depends on the use case, and it's a bit linear. But it depends on the customer's strategy and how Cisco plans to optimize the costs.""The price should be slightly lower than the current price because if you look at the whole solution, it is simply a threat intelligence solution to block blacklisted things. The price should be lower looking at the features provided by the solution. The price isn't too high either, but it could be lower.""The price of Cisco Umbrella is a little higher than similar solutions, like Gateway.""There are three models for licensing with different feature sets.""Pricing depends on the automation requirements of the organization."
