Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It's very stable, reliable and does its job.""The solution is extremely stable. It has excellent performance.""Stability-wise, it's good. I have never encountered any bugs.""Its simplicity is most valuable. I can install it and get it up and running, and it can be pervasive across my business within a business day. It is pretty simple and straightforward to install and configure. Its remit is reasonably clearly defined. When you look at solutions like Darktrace and Carbon Black, the mission objective isn't as clearly defined. Cisco Umbrella, Sophos Central, or some of the other solutions have a more standardized approach to antivirus, which includes enhanced response from the machine learning or deep learning perspective.""The initial setup is very easy and takes only a few minutes.""The most valuable feature is the website protection capabilities because it prevents end-users from entering bad sites that potentially have malware or could be used for phishing.""The security and access control features.""Overall, it is a very good solution. It is a simple solution and very easy to set up."

"The deployment process is very simple.""This appliance gives me good visibility in the userbase and their activities.""I would recommend this solution to others.""It also has high availability.""The most valuable feature is security.""It integrates well with Cisco Email Security Appliance.""The most valuable feature is that we can use it as a proxy.""Cisco is the best in giving technical support. There is no doubt about that."

"It is easy to manage. The graphical user interface is quite easy to navigate, and we don't have any difficulty in using it. It is a good solution.""It is quite scalable. If a user needs to do more deployments, they can just add them.""The most valuable features are the website blocking capability and SSL interception."

Cons
"The product can be pretty expensive.""It has happened in the past that Cisco Umbrella has denied us access to secure websites.""It could be improved by having a local data center and caching, which can provide protection support. I would like to be able to channel my intel and my network traffic to their clouds, and this feature is not available. Advanced protection or any malware file support, which might be required, is not available.""Missing a real data leakage prevention solution.""The reporting could be improved by way of the information that's displayed. For example, when you pull a report, it shows an internal employee going to many websites, but you can spin that right down by saying a lot of it is being cached.""I think it's a very basic solution, and because of that, Cisco Umbrella would not be a suitable solution for large companies.""The price could be better. The price is definitely a bit high, but we have to pay a premium for Cisco products.""One of the issues with Umbrella is as you get into endpoint detection and response, such as EDR point solutions, some of them will not integrate well with Umbrella. Sometimes when you want to use technology, such as Always On VPN, it will not work. There are some looming issues as one type of technology starts to crossover with Umbrella. That is the challenge and Umbrella should find a way to be more compatible with some of the endpoint response solutions that are coming out on the market."

More Cisco Umbrella Cons →

"They need a better graphical interface, and they need a better ISE mechanism.""If a user wants to use it for other devices like mobile or smartphones, this product isn't so reliable.""The solution needs to be more user-friendly and easier to navigate.""This solution could be more secure.""Sometimes reporting is a little bit short.""The licensing model needs to be more flexible.""The GUI is not user-friendly, so it needs to improve or be simplified.""The one thing I don't like about Cisco is that they are very much fragmented in terms of providing the complete solution. They keep on breaking their different feature sets into different boxes."

More Cisco Web Security Appliance Cons →

"Difficult and time-consuming to deploy and update.""The major challenge is their support. The support from Broadcom is quite poor. It takes forever for them to get back to you, and when they get back to you, they ask you for so much information, which makes it more difficult. That's the only problem I have with Broadcom. This is one of the reasons why we are switching to another solution. Another reason for switching is that we have a plan to adopt solutions in the cloud so that we can offload the administration efforts to the vendor. In future releases, they can improve its reporting and the process for rules creation. They can also improve Broadcom on things such as security information and event management so that from my same platform, I can carry out functions and probably block websites. Such a feature would be nice. Currently, Broadcom is integrated with McAfee to block access to certain sites automatically. It would be nice if they can expand their integration to IBM Resilient Security Orchestration and Automation Response.""The interface could be made more user-friendly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I am not sure, I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I think it's $1.00 or so per device/month."
  • "Cisco uses subscription models for the pricing and there are three subscription plans."
  • "The licensing part for Umbrella is really flexible."
  • "There are three models for licensing with different feature sets."
  • "I think it's worth the money."
  • "The price of Cisco Umbrella is a little higher than similar solutions, like Gateway."
  • "The price should be slightly lower than the current price because if you look at the whole solution, it is simply a threat intelligence solution to block blacklisted things. The price should be lower looking at the features provided by the solution. The price isn't too high either, but it could be lower."
  • "There is a subscription cost."
