Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Ability to move your virtual machines from one host to another.""The onboarding process is pretty straightforward.""The ability to move a virtual machine while it is running is a big advantage.""Installing Hypervisor is really simple. It's the simplest setup I've ever done before. We used a team to deploy it, and it doesn't take much time, like two or three hours tops.""The solution is extremely user friendly.""The continued uptime of our virtual machines is good.""The most valuable features are being able to host many virtual machines and being able to patch machines.""Scripting can automate procedures."

"Stability and speed are the most valuable aspects.""I can control and manage everything. I know everything that's cooking inside. This is the best part for me.""It is easy to deal with when comes to application migration and its compatibility with the multiple component applications.""The solution is overall very good with all the facilities. It is user friendly, easy to configure, has documentation, and support is available.""The price is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's much cheaper than, for example, VMware.""What they provide is way beyond the essential requirements of customers.""This solution is very stable. Much more so than similar products.""It is very stable."

Cons
"It needs to have a more robust backup solution.""Live migration is something that can be improved.""It can be useful to have a web management program because we have to install our client-server. We have to properly manage the host, if we had administration tools through a web interface it would be a benefit.""I am not very sure about how flexible Citrix Hypervisor is with different types of infrastructures. I only know it is flexible with Nutanix, but I am not sure if it is also flexible with others. They can make its integration with other platforms or OEMs easy. They should also make it easy for users to manage their infrastructure. Citrix should make compatibility information related to a hypervisor easily available in a datasheet. Citrix isn't really recognized in this part of the world, and they need to expand their solution and make it more available. There are a lot of customers and companies that are looking for a solution like Citrix, and it should be available in this part of the world. They need to educate people more. Technically, it is good and flexible and has good ability, but it is not as much known as VMware or Microsoft. Their support should also be improved. Currently, if you don't have an updated version, they will not give you the attention.""The main problem with Citrix Hypervisor is getting readily available backup solutions for it. It would be wonderful if Hypervisor were better integrated with third-party backup solutions.""Overall, I can't think of a feature that is lacking. We've been pretty satisfied overall.""You need a licensed account to look up technical support.""I find that the features in Citrix Hypervisor are not as rich as with VMware. It would be a benefit if they had some of the other features VMware has, such as the ability to expand a drive on the fly. You do not have to take down the machine to do it but in Citrix you do."

More Citrix Hypervisor Cons →

"The availability of technical expertise with the solution may be limited in some areas.""In comparison to VMware, this solution isn't as stable. We're testing it right now, and we're not trusting the stability of the product.""Customers are not aware of this solution, they can improve by providing more awareness and solution availability.""When we do a direct comparison, then obviously VMware does better in terms of having Fault Tolerance and doing active disaster recovery and these kind of things. This is something that can be improved within Red Hat.""The documentation is not as good as it should be.""Red Hat by itself is not scalable. But you can have third party add-ons like Ceph to make it massively scalable.""We'd like it if it would be possible on Red Hat Virtualization to possibly connect two or three VMs to the same disk.""The support is tricky in a few places. We're facing some challenges within Malaysia where we don't really have the system integrators available who can provide extended support. When we need personnel on-site, we can't get them."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Citrix is a good low-cost alternative to VMware, so if budgeting is an issue then I would recommend it."
  • "The licensing is straight forward based on usage and features."
  • "I am fine with their license support. What we have right now is permanent, so I don't have a problem with their license."
  • "There is a license required to use this solution. You need a license on every server, but the license is more for support than anything else. The cost is not expensive, it is a fraction of the cost of VMware. When you look at the cost overall and features, Citrix Hypervisor has a very attractive offering."
  • "The cost of this product is not high."
