We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot.""Cohesity is extremely easy to use and intuitive.""The most valuable feature is ease of use.""Its most valuable feature is its ransomware protection, so it has immutable backups.""The product is easy to put in place. All backups are done very quickly. It's easy to perform restores. What I prefer in the product is its simplicity. There are no useless settings to define, and everything is ready after the initial setup.""The dashboard is very rich and provides details needed for a moderator.""Cohesity's web-scale architecture enables us to scale up as needed.""We are happy with the support provided by Cohesity for the issues we've come across."

"Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work.""It has been around for so long, and it is very in-depth. It has a solution for everything that you can cover.""Best feature is its three-tier backup.""It is very easy to back up and recover files compared to other products.""The deduplication feature is useful. Deduplication and compression features are what I like about NetBackup.""It is a good solution. It covers most of the applications.""The most valuable feature is flexibility.""The main features of this solution are deduplication, compression, ease of use, simplistic user interface, and compatibility with all the backup service systems."

Cons
"Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs.""In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward.""I think Cohesity could add more platform support. For example, they could improve integration with DB2 or make the integration S3 object storage a little tighter. Some of that stuff could use some work, but overall, it's a relatively comprehensive platform.""Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads.""We would love to see direct compatibility with HPE Simplivity, which we also leverage.""In terms of what could be improved, it just needs some maturity.""There is limited support for legacy systems, which is something that could be improved.""Cohesity cluster upgrades have not been as easy as a single button click. They are a manual process that requires upgrading each node into a cluster individually."

"I would like to have support enabled for cloud backups.""I also think they could improve the reporting. They use a web-based software application OpsCenter for the reporting and I see that they haven't made any changes in years.""The security and performance could improve with Veritas NetBackup. The security could be improved by protecting the data from attackers.""Veritas could simplify the firmware recovery in terms of the deployed. The process shouldn't be dependent on the agents. It should be completely agentless.""Its integration with Nutanix and technical support can be improved.""The deployment time is longer than it is with other products.""It would be helpful, in future releases, if the solution could add WORM (Write Once Read Many) support right within the product.""The solution is quite expensive."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"I expect the system to probably pay off within the first two years.""Pricing, setup costs, etc. are pretty typical. The initial cost for Cohesity was less than other products the we evaluated. Cohesity's pricing does offer benefits as DR target costs are less than other solutions. You are not charged for DataProtect licensing for target DR data consumption.""Sizing is important and it is easy to overestimate.""The solution's pricing is quite high, more so than that of its competitors, Veeam, Veritas and Rubrik.""With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive.""The pricing model is impressive and very effective.""It has reasonable pricing, and we know they can give discounts. If you look at the primary pricing or the list pricing, it conforms to the market pricing, but you have to have a discount on it. Otherwise, it is way too expensive.""My advice is to always negotiate for better pricing."

"We are happy with the pricing that we have, but it's expensive.""NetBackup is expensive. They need to work on the pricing side. I find it comparatively on the higher side when I compare the terabyte backup costs.""When you compare NetBackup's software licensing system with Veeam's, which is simpler and based on instances (or how many physical machines or virtual machines you want to protect), NetBackup isn't that competitive for smaller scale companies. However, if you're running many large workloads, then NetBackup may be the better option.""It was on a yearly basis. During the annual review, when we asked them about our licensing, they couldn't explain it. For example, we had reduced by a factor of 40%, but our license only dropped by 5%. We would then ask Veritas people if we've reduced this much and shut down these servers, why has our license changed so less? They were never able to give us a straight answer. They weren't able to say, "Well, you're using this, and this is more expensive." In many cases, as we reduced our capacity and what we were using with Veritas NetBackup, our licensing actually went up, and they were often unable to explain why.""Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same.""Veritas NetBackup's pricing is a bit steep when compared to other tools. It is very costly, but service-wise and overall, the Veritas NetBackup is a good product.""Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution.""It is very expensive. The licensing cost for this solution is on a yearly basis. It is approximately 50k. We will continue using it at least for the next year, but we are currently doing an analysis to switch to some other solution."
