We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The solution is also quite flexible. As an example, other vSAN solutions that we looked at had more stringent requirements regarding mixed HDD/SSD storage which wouldn't have worked in our environment.""The ability for us to manage all of our nodes from the same console makes systems administration very easy.""It is extremely stable.""Recovery and maintenance are now less stressful and most importantly, it allows our users to keep working.""It allows me to configure High Availability and failover clustering with some fault tolerance, at a cost point that doesn’t break the bank for a small business budget.""Highly available storage is the most valuable feature. The entire rollout is hyper-converged and requires no extra storage further than the hosts in which Hyper-V is running. Another feature that has been great is the support from StarWind in general. We have their proactive support package on the main cluster that employs Starwind Virtual SAN.""vSAN we found was simple to set up, easy to configure and manage and allows us to achieve storage redundancy.""We have experienced multiple hardware failures at one site and the fault-tolerant volume worked exactly as expected with zero downtime."

"It is easy to use for management and operations teams because the tools are in one place.""The solution was connected to alternate storage. It provides great scalability and reliability.""The most valuable feature is high availability.""We've had no issues with scaling the solution."

"HPE's InfoSight software, which does the comparative analysis and artificial intelligence built-in in the box, and with Nimble they do well against the competition. Additionally, the dashboards are good.""The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud.""It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors.""I love InfoSite. That gets you a lot of good detailed information.""Very good in-line compression.""Nimble DHCI is really user friendly and not complex""The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads."

Cons
"A great feature would be a wizard and to include a new disk in the SAN. At the moment, including a new disk requires several steps - some that must be done at the OS level and others in each node.""It would help if the manufacturer provided clearer and more detailed documentation, with explanations of how the application can be installed in various HA configurations.""There is no Italian-language version of the software available.""I would like to see different levels of support offered.""For the StarWind VSA vSphere solution, I would like to see a simpler and automated virtual machine installation process in terms of network settings.""I see no need for major improvements but there could be some improvements in the form of notifications and the simplifying of maintenance mode.""If there was one thing we could request, it would be the ability to shrink volumes. For example, we want to be able to decrease in the size of the volume.""The StarWind Management Console is available only for Microsoft Windows/Windows Server, and should also be available for Linux and macOS, as it would reduce implementation costs."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons »

"The installation is complex.""I would like to see a more user-friendly interface.""The biggest issue with the solution is that it doesn't support Hyper V. It's a big problem.""We've had some issues around the licensing."

More Dell EMC PowerFlex Cons »

"Sometimes the technical support would get back to us in two hours, but other times it would take them two or even three days to respond.""The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options.""HPE Nimble Storage dHCI currently is promoting only VMware as a hypervisor, whereas if they can look into other OSs, such as KVM or Red Hat, it would be an improvement.""The initial setup is a little bit complicated.""Lacking integration to the cloud.""Their documentation needs to be simpler to read yet more detailed so it's easy to compare models and easier for clients to pick.""The only issue I'm really running into is we have a SQL server that we're having a lot of high IO latency on one of my drives and it's my data drive from my SQL server. It's not really giving me any good information as to where that latency is coming from, so that's what I'm trying to track down and troubleshoot."

The ability to have access to a storage engineer 24/7 is a must for a production environment.""I think the bang for the buck is much better with StarWind Virtual SAN.""I think that purchasing StarWind Virtual SAN Professional Edition would be optimal for most.""The cost was ultimately low to implement, which allowed us to be 3-2-1 complaint.""This is the best priced solution for an SMB.""I think the cost of this solution is quite fair.""The cost takes into account the number of nodes, so the size of the storage is not important.""The StarWind VSAN business model is very cost-effective."

Overview

For SMB, ROBO, Cloud and Hosting providers, who look to cut down virtualization expenses, our solution is StarWind VSAN. It is software that eliminates any need in physical shared storage by basically “mirroring” internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. There is less hardware to buy in general, consequently less money is spent on purchase and maintenance. The existing hardware is used with maximum efficiency, so there is no money wasted at all.

StarWind Virtual SAN targets those who already have servers, or are bound to a particular vendor list to buy from. In case there is a new virtualization infrastructure to be built from scratch, StarWind offers a much better way – StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. It is a turnkey solution complete with hardware and software, powered by StarWind Virtual SAN. Those who need to build and maintain virtualization infrastructure at little to no expense, may be interested in StarWind Virtual SAN Free.

VxRack System consists of hyper-converged rack-scale engineered systems, with integrated networking, to achieve the scalability and management requirements of traditional and cloud native workloads. The VxRack series is purposely designed to enable customers to quickly deploy Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and/or Private Cloud architectures. VxRack Systems tightly integrate hardware with software and management layers.

The result is a fully tested, pre-configured, hyper-converged system with simplified operations at data center and Service Provider scale. VxRack Systems support the deployment of a variety of application workloads, allowing IT to rapidly deliver new services while improving overall agility and efficiency.
