We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features."

"They have a feature called Live Migrate; it's been very, very useful.""The solution is stable.""One time, we had a drive fail and we were notified before we even saw it on the device.""Its leading feature is the price-performance ratio, which is very good.""What is most valuable about the Dell EMC SC Series system was its reliability.""The setup is straightforward.""This solution is easy to use.""Performance-wise it's high speed. It's also more stable and scalable."

"There are plenty of features available in this solution.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the overall simplicity.""The majority of our customers find this solution simple to use.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the price to performance ratio.""I've been satisfied with the level of attention I'm given when I reach out to technical support.""The installation and management are very easy.""This is a stable product that we can use for DR in production."

Cons
"In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""I would like to see the management layer improved.""The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint."

"Dell could improve the upgrading process.""The initial setup is somewhat complex and should be made simpler to do.""While there's always room for improvement in everything, I can't really think of a specific feature of the solution that requires immediate attention.""While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations.""There's always room for improvement in the operating code.""It would be helpful if the solution offered higher performance, at least on the back end.""It's not very efficient anymore. There are better products out there.""Technical support should respond more quickly because the turnaround time is very high."

More Dell EMC SC Series Cons »

"The product could always be faster.""Huawei OceanStor Dorado could improve the integration, there have been some compatibility issues with some operating system functions.""If they implement a backup solution directly into the OceanStor then it will be a valuable feature.""This solution can improve by providing easier migrations and better Metro features.""There are some limitations to this product because they do not have unified storage.""This solution does not support VMware VVols 2.0.""I would really like to see Heterogeneous Storage Virtualization in a future release."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with.""The licensing fees are very reasonable."

More Pavilion HyperParallel Flash Array Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Pricing depends on varying life cycles.""This product is too expensive compared to others, and I don't see any value in using it.""The pricing of Dell EMC Compellent is competitive.""Support typically depends on the array. It can range anywhere from $7,000 to a couple of hundred thousand dollars."

More Dell EMC SC Series Pricing and Cost Advice »

"We usually recommend our customers choose advanced licensing and enterprise companies are more inclined to choose this solution because it is more cost-effective than competitors.""There are lots of features included with this solution and some of them require additional licensing, such as creating high availability storage using a cluster.""There are some costs in addition to the standard licensing fees, depending on the requirements.""The price of the solution is competitive compared to others, such as Dell EMC and Hitachi. I believe the reason they are providing a discount is they want to increase their penetration into the market.""This product is not too expensive, and the price is competitive on the market."
