We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features."

"The setup is straightforward.""Its leading feature is the price-performance ratio, which is very good.""One time, we had a drive fail and we were notified before we even saw it on the device.""The product offers good performance and is quite powerful.""This solution is easy to use.""It had many features, like a snapshot, replication, on-the-file RAID levels, mix-and-match files, those kinds of things.""The solution has a wide variety of valuable features. The data progression works well. We use the snapshot functionality quite a bit and really like it.""The Dell support is helpful and the response is quick. The agents' knowledge is very good."

"Ability to cluster two storages together with HA availability.""The solution offers very good reliable systems and storage for our clients.""The price of this solution is good."

Cons
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""I would like to see the management layer improved."

"There's always room for improvement in the operating code.""It would be helpful if the solution offered higher performance, at least on the back end.""In some customer cases, customers experienced more performance or latency.""While there's always room for improvement in everything, I can't really think of a specific feature of the solution that requires immediate attention.""Dell could improve the upgrading process.""While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations.""The initial setup is somewhat complex and should be made simpler to do.""The interface could be improved. It should have an application point of view."

"Many people do not realize that Lenovo has a storage solution, so better marketing from the vendor is needed.""This is an expensive solution.""The licensing model needs to be revisited. It needs to be simplified."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."
  • "The licensing fees are very reasonable."
  • More Pavilion HyperParallel Flash Array Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "The pricing of Dell EMC Compellent is competitive."
  • "Support typically depends on the array. It can range anywhere from $7,000 to a couple of hundred thousand dollars."
  • "This product is too expensive compared to others, and I don't see any value in using it."
  • "Pricing depends on varying life cycles."
  • "We have the basic license for the use of this solution and it is a permanent license. The overall cost could be less, it is expensive."
  • "The SC Series was priced fairly. I wouldn't call it either expensive or cheap because we had a very tight budget, so if they were able to fit in that type of budget, they met our expectations."
