We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."

"A valuable feature of XtremIO is that, in terms of administration, it's simple and manageable.""The performance is good, which is important.""The most valuable feature of Dell EMC XtremIO is the data protection (DP) group, it is one of the most advanced features in these types of arrays. The dedupe and compression that this array provides both do a superb job."

"The performance is very good.""The performance of the solution is good.""All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license.""HPE Primera is scalable.""The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime.""One of the most valuable features is the ease of deployment.""The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption.""The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex."

Cons
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""I would like to see the management layer improved."

"If you are looking at flash storage solutions, XtremIO doesn't offer any unique features. Most of my customers are migrating their workload from XtremIO to other formats because of this.""In the next release, the solution could have better integration and if we can host assets on the cloud, such as NetApp has the NetApp volumes, which we can host on the cloud directly called NetApp CVO (cloud volume ONTAP). Dell EMC should come up with something purely on the cloud rather than manage services.""Scalability is something that can be improved because there is an issue when it comes to mixing versions."

More Dell EMC XtremIO Cons »

"The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage.""This solution would be expensive for small business and it could be priced more competitively for that market.""The cost of HPE Primera could be lower.""One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage.""The interface needs to be more user-friendly in that sense that installation and management are still a bit on the high end.""We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data.""There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price.""On the controller side, I would like to see NAS capabilities."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The licensing fees are very reasonable.""This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."

More Pavilion HyperParallel Flash Array Pricing and Cost Advice »

"This solution is a little bit pricey.""The price of the solution should be reduced. The price matches the price of a VMAX service but it does not have the capability of a VMAX service. However, the prices of Dell EMC XtremIO can be reduceable.""XtremIO is an all-flash array, which means it's a costly solution. When compared with general mid-range storage solutions, this is more expensive. As far as I know, there are no additional costs besides the license."

More Dell EMC XtremIO Pricing and Cost Advice »

"The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses.""Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included.""I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price.""The price to capacity ratio is good.""From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive.""It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price.""There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."
