Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Being able to sort on device types or devices with open ports is helpful when narrowing down assets of possible misconfigured devices that may be vulnerable on the network. We can take action on those devices based off of corporate policy.""Its feature that I have found most valuable is that it is very granular. You can configure granular controls just as you want those policies to be implemented. It gives you that flexibility to go granular in how you want your controls to be implemented. That's something I like about it.""Within three or four days, we have complete visibility of your infrastructure on the network. Compared to other solutions, the deployment of the solution is easier and we can close the project quickly.""The most valuable feature is the ease of deployment, which does not require the use of an agent.""The interface is easy to use.""Being able to actively identify the client without a certificate allows you to control every device on your network regardless of the make, model, and software running. This allows for end-to-end security.""The most valuable feature of the Forescout Platform is the large capacity it can handle. Additionally, the interface of the platform is good.""The initial setup is quite simple. It's not too complex or difficult to set up."

"This product has the best results in terms of the lowest number of false-positives and false-negatives.""Very customizable with a lot of templates.""The scans are the most valuable aspect of this solution.""The feature we've liked most recently was being able to take the YARA rules from FireEye and put them into Tenable's scan for the most recent SolarWinds exploit. That was really useful.""The solution is one of the most, if not the most, stable product available.""It's a very useful tool.""Tenable SC is good for reporting and alerting. The filtering feature is also very valuable. Its integration with multiple vendors is quite good. It can be integrated with SIEM solutions and PAM solutions such as Thycotic, which is very helpful.""Their overall cost of service is pretty good."

Cons
"For the user, the policy that they have implemented sometimes needs adjustments. Sometimes the features that the customer asks for aren't involved in the main installation, and I need to bolt an add-on in. However, I never know if this policy is the right one when I do this.""Although Forescout manages endpoints and network devices, there is no capability for user management.""It's scalable, but not without a big investment. It doesn't do so well at the branch. At the home office, it does okay and not so well at the branch.""I should be able to integrate my Forescout with any other third party security technology, to build that connected security strategy.""More detailed analysis during the authentication process, especially for troubleshooting access issues. We have found that troubleshooting RADIUS controls is quite arduous, as it is today. A trace function could easily resolve this by providing a means by which access issues from a certificate to passwords or accounts could easily be identified and remediated.""The solution needs more definitive pricing. The costs are hard to nail down.""When we automate an email to send to a user, sometimes it gets blocked, but that has nothing to do with Forescout. It depends on the mail gateway that we use or integrate with.""The initial setup is a bit complex."

More Forescout Platform Cons →

"The integration is very good, although it still needs to improve.""Current web page needs improvement, slows down processes.""I will say it's a lot slower compared to an MS scan. It takes so much longer, so the performance could definitely be worked on.""The reporting needs a lot of work on the template.""The pricing is reasonable, but this could be brought down more aggressively, such as we see with Rapid7, Tenable SC's main competitor.""The GUI could be improved to have all concerns and priorities use the same GUI, allowing them to see all tickets, assign vulnerabilities, and assign variation failures to each member of their team.""There is not much room for improvement. However, there should be a guide that describes the step-by-step procedures for doing tasks. Otherwise, training is required from a senior guy to a junior guy.""The biggest issue I have with the solution is when I'm using the scanning it picks up the original DNS of that device. That means, before we image it and actually change the DNS to something within our company structure, it'll just be random numbers and letters and Tenable will stick to that DNS for a long time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The fact that we were allowed to spin up as many servers as we had need of to support our geographic requirements while paying for licensing as an enterprise truly set Forescout apart from the crowd and improved the way we could design our access."
  • "We went with the virtual appliance option. The biggest cost to running these types of appliances would be to either have multiple virtual appliances at every data center or running Remote SPAN hardware to provide you the real-time network visibility."
  • "The ROI is priceless."
  • "It might not be the cheapest solution, but you get what you pay for."
  • "Time savings in finding rogue devices as well as identifying potentially unwanted devices on the network has saved the organization time and money."
  • "The setup cost, pricing, and licensing are on the high side."
  • "Forescout Platform is too expensive, so the price should be reduced."
  • "Licenses are perpetual but can come with renewable support."

  • "We pay around 60,000 on a yearly basis."
  • "The price can start at €10,000 ($13,000 USD) for between 500 and 1,000 assets, and the price can climb into the millions as more assets are added."
  • "I use a local license to perform penetration testing and I'm pretty happy with everything when it comes to pricing and licensing."
  • "Though reasonable, the main competitor of Tenable SC, Rapid7, offers a more aggressive and better priced product."
