We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""The feature set is fine and is rarely a problem.""I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL)."

"There are many useful features, such as web security and advanced threat detection.""The VDOM (Virtual DOM) is a virtualized firewall that has some opportunities for flexibility that are an advantage in certain configurations.""There are a lot of features that we like within the solution. The resources or performance of the firewall is very good. However, the real selling point is the fact that the solution offers so many features, it gives our clients a lot of extras that they can work with. There's a lot on offer.""The most valuable features are the ease of use, and the overall simplicity, everyone can use it with a small introduction.""I personally think the site-to-site VPN is the most useful feature. A lot of firewalls have that, but to me, that's one of the features that's essential.""All networks are security-driven, we get throughputs and security. We feel that the people at Fortinet are easy to deal with from a support standpoint. If they need to jump in and help us, they're very willing to do that. Their email filtering, their data loss prevention, their intrusion prevention, type of products in the newest OSs has been outstanding.""FortiGate as a product is very easy to configure.""Firewall and overall management are valuable features."

"One of the valuable features is the ability to create CLI scripts on the fly to fix any issues. We were using it for QoS modeling to ensure that we were properly modeling QoS, and it basically said here is what you need to fix to get this QoS done, whether it is ACL or something else. It would either push or recommend. If you have the right credentials, you could also push. It is very good if you are a Cisco shop. It gives you reporting, latency, and bandwidth utilization for your applications, so you can do good capacity management planning. There are a lot of pieces that LiveNX can give you. It is a total NPM solution for SD-WAN.""We don't have any complaints about the software. According to my team, it's a very good tool that's very intuitive."

Cons
"We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment."

"The implementation could be simplified.""It could more scalable for the lower end users.""Right now, it's very trendy to integrate everything into the cloud. This solution would be more effective if they did more integration in that regard.""The pricing model makes this product far more expensive than similar solutions.""Technical support could be better. Some competitors have much more responsive support teams.""The solution could improve by making the dashboard easier to use.""FortiOS doesn't work well with all browsers. I think they need to do a better job of making it compatible with the various browsers that are out there.""The reporting and monitoring could improve, they have a lot of limitations. The monitoring is not easy compared to the other firewall."

More Fortinet FortiOS Cons »

"It is not as robust as other NPM solutions. For instance, there is a problem while labeling specific applications. It works well with well-known applications, but when you have to put in new applications that are not very known and set them up with names, ports, URLs, or some protocols, it is not as intuitive.""The only downside to this software is the price."

It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""This product is expensive.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs."
