We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control."

"FortiGate as a product is very easy to configure.""Firewall and overall management are valuable features.""All networks are security-driven, we get throughputs and security. We feel that the people at Fortinet are easy to deal with from a support standpoint. If they need to jump in and help us, they're very willing to do that. Their email filtering, their data loss prevention, their intrusion prevention, type of products in the newest OSs has been outstanding.""The most valuable features are the ease of use, and the overall simplicity, everyone can use it with a small introduction.""The information security features are the most valuable.""There are many useful features, such as web security and advanced threat detection.""The solution is very user friendly.""The main features I find useful are intrusion prevention and web filtering. Additionally, the solution is easy to manage."

Cons
"It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""Deploying configurations takes longer than it should.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website."

"Lacks flexibility for different scenario configurations.""FortiOS doesn't work well with all browsers. I think they need to do a better job of making it compatible with the various browsers that are out there.""Technical support could be better. Some competitors have much more responsive support teams.""It would be great if they can push the Microsoft updates through Fortinet OS and provide a centralized patch management system. They should also include the data loss prevention (DLP) and data leakage prevention features. They could also add network monitoring more effectively.""The reporting and monitoring could improve, they have a lot of limitations. The monitoring is not easy compared to the other firewall.""It could more scalable for the lower end users.""They're using a lot of application-specific IC, so that may be causing some performance issues. And whenever a Fortinet adds new features, it can affect performance.""The solution could improve by making the dashboard easier to use."

More Fortinet FortiOS Cons »

"Although manageable, the user interface is a little bit slow and could be improved.""Sometimes it reboots when you least expect it, and that's the main issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""There are additional implementation and validation costs."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"There is a license required for the solution and the price is fair.""The price of Fortinet FortiOS has been reasonable.""The software costs roughly half what the hardware costs. Overall, the product is expensive.""The solution could have a better licensing model. It's a bit more expensive than other solutions. The annual subscription is very pricy in Fortinet. The cost could be reduced.""The support contracts are usually about $100 - $200 a device."
