Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"High Availability is the best feature of product.""The fact that I can now count on a true failover solution is what is most appealing.""Quick setup, great support, stability is great""The ability for us to manage all of our nodes from the same console makes systems administration very easy.""We have experienced multiple hardware failures at one site and the fault-tolerant volume worked exactly as expected with zero downtime.""The primary purpose of this software is to create a virtual SAN between local storage on Hyper-V hosts. I find this feature most valuable since it accomplishes this quite well.""A great feature is that I basically set it and forget it, as everything is automatic.""It has a nice, simple control panel. You can clearly see the state and health of storage along with the synchronization."

"Reasonably priced and easy to manage for small to medium size companies that don't have an IT department."

More HPE Hyper Converged Pros »

"Cost-effective and easy to install.""t's a very good solution with multiple options with VxRail series like based on customer requirements whether they're focused on compute, storage, scalability and high performance, etc. Whether a customer you are going to start your IT Infrastructure footprint with a limited budget, you have freedom of choice and non-disruptive expansion in the future, whether in the main data center or branches. Any idea coming in system admins mind to run this setup continuously and keep service 100% 24/7 is possible in this product line. Hyper-converged appliances allow a datacenter in a box approach, with G, E P, Vand P series.""The stability continues to get better and better. It's pretty reliable.""VxRail has high performance and has great efficiency. There is a single place for us to manage all of our virtual machines. The ability to right-size instead of overcommit VMs is a large benefit.""VxRail can manage the whole cluster at the same time, so it's easy to expand. VxRail has more features vSAN ReadyNodes that make it easier to implement from scratch.""The feature that I have found most valuable with VxRail is its upgrade. Because if you talk about the normal ESX process you have to upgrade the firmware, the bios, and you have to manage the compatibility. You have to do a lot of things. But in the case of VxRail, it's a single upgrade, end to end. You simply upload the bundle, click next, it will do some pre-checks, if those pre-checks pass, it will update everything one by one. It will put one ESX in the maintenance and move other VM's to another mode. There is no downtime to the VM's.""I like that there is a dependency on the storage controller.""VxRail does not require fiber switches or external storage. It's easy to replace and manage. It's centralized management through VxRail Manager."

Cons
"It would be nice to add the ability to use raw partitions instead of file containers.""I would like to see options for automated notifications of any changes, including, for example, synchronization issues.""Management of VSAN itself could be improved. A Web UI for management would be great rather than an application installation. StarWind is testing a command center virtual appliance that I have installed in my environment.""We would like the documentation to be more complete. Most items are covered, but if you don't know something, you may need to contact their support.""The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us.""Although minor, some of the documentation could be rewritten to be clearer.""Having more support plan options would be nice.""The main thing I would like to see improved is the level of documentation."

"Scalability requires using additional nodes."

More HPE Hyper Converged Cons »

"VxRail is a closed system with an out-of-the -box solution approach, it has basic 3 layers, Hardware, Network, Storage, Software, (Virtualizing) Applications. Release notes and improvement tips, patches from the back office, the business units, should be frequent and up to the patches which are coming from different vendors as far as the operating system application and also the technology itself is concerned.""It would be an improvement if VxRail could be integrated with some other hypervisors and not just with VMware.""There is limited support for SAP HANA with this solution.""When using hybrid nodes, such as VxRail, there should not be compression and deduplication, only in All-Flash nodes.""It would be nice if its installation can be simplified, but it is currently not too bad. They can provide deduplication and compression in hybrid configurations. To the best of my knowledge, these features are not there, and it would be nice if these are added. Some of its competitors already have these features, so it will help VxRail to have a better feature set and compete more effectively.""The cost is quite high. It's a very expensive solution to run.""Technically speaking, the vCenter and the administration of the integration of the vCenter could be improved.""The solution could improve by having more storage performance because in some other solutions you can have a file system that can be mounted at several places at one time."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This solution is very accessible and the pro-level for support is well worth the cost.""This is the best priced solution for an SMB.""The cost, including OPEX, is lower compared to other solutions.""I think the bang for the buck is much better with StarWind Virtual SAN.""Licensing is easy and the whole package is cost-effective.""The cost was ultimately low to implement, which allowed us to be 3-2-1 complaint.""The premium support from StarWinds is a must have. The ability to have access to a storage engineer 24/7 is a must for a production environment.""This solution has competitive prices and the implementation is very easy."

Information Not Available
"The price would be in the middle to the expensive range. It is not cheap.""The solution is competitively priced but it is expensive. However, this is expected as we are a corporate enterprise and we need this environment.""The solution is very expensive.""VxRail is very cost-effective and affordable in the long term. It is more recommended when it comes to financial life, but it may depend upon the license. VxRail comes with VMware licensing, which may not be that cost-effective as compared to others. With VMware, it's an auto check competition. VMware is an expensive solution, especially for Nutanix. Nutanix have their own hypervisor called Acronis, which is very cost-effective against the VMware. Nutanix is cheaper for the hardware but not for the software. If you ask the Nutanix partners to deploy Nutanix over Cisco servers or Dell EMC servers, the cost will be higher. Nutanix wants to compete financially. Therefore, they propose their software over the Supermicro server, which is a very cheap Chinese server. In fact, I don't like their terms of service. HyperFlex has the highest price, and it is very expensive. I don't know why. It may be because this is a UCS system, which comes from Cisco and is already expensive. When it comes to HyperFlex, they need the labor to deploy Hyper-V, Citrix, or any other hypervisor.""This is an expensive product and that should be considered a point to be improved.""There is a license required for this solution.""It is just as cheap to move over to an HCI solution as it is to maintain a legacy system.""Price is a bit of a challenge, particularly if you want extra features or higher performance."

Reviews from Real Users

VxRail is an all-in-one solution: "You don't have to worry too much about the hardware and you don't have to work on integrating a storage device. We instead have this as an all-in-one solution and everything is available as a box."

VxRail is remarkable: “The cover points feature in VxRail is remarkable. It's unique. It has an intervention failover system as well as an automatic failover system, reaching clusters existing in VxRail…

VxRail is a powerful performer: “...VxRail delivers a very high number of IOPS for a hybrid configuration or an all-flash configuration. The processors that are available in the Xeon family are very powerful. They are multi-core with typically 2 gigahertz, 2.4 gigahertz, or higher frequency, so the performance is very much appreciated.”
