We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features.""There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint.""We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."

"The performance of the solution is good.""All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license.""The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex.""The performance is very good.""The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime.""One of the most valuable features is the ease of deployment.""Our customers have given very positive feedback about InfoSign, which is the management software for this solution.""The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption."

"Its performance is most valuable. This solution is much faster than other as well as older storage solutions. The performance of the system is very good. We are getting 50 times better experience than the older storages. We are using AFF 300. It also has native cloud integration and most of the features.""The management software is very good.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the performance of the database access.""The initial setup is pretty straightforward.""Rapid deployment, easy integration management and cloning of areas.""Some of the valuable features include MetroCluster switchover, in terms of disaster recovery, it is easy to use, and flexible.""The most valuable feature is the ability to set a specific margin of performance to a specific workload."

Cons
"In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented.""The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint.""I would like to see the management layer improved."

"We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data.""The file server embedded in Pure, the GUI, and the tracking and reporting features are better with Pure Storage.""On the hardware side, you should have the ability to expand capacity to larger numbers.""There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price.""They could work to make scalability easier.""The cost of HPE Primera could be lower.""One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage.""On the controller side, I would like to see NAS capabilities."

More HPE Primera Cons »

"Their problems are on the software and the controlling of the storage where they lack segmentation and federation.""Better integration with other brands is important so we would like to see it easier to integrate.""The dashboard could be simplified.""There could be an improvement when it comes to SLA support, it could be faster.""Its pricing should be better. Its price is competitive, but they need to improve the pricing. They have different licensing models, which they need to improve. My expectation was cloud integration, which they have, but it is a different license. Therefore, people cannot enjoy it. If I want to use it, I need to pay extra. There is a cost involved for everything, but it should reach everyone. It is similar to having a Rolls-Royce, but you need to pay extra for the key. If you want the key, you need to pay.""I would like to have the ability to replicate data between All Flash and other NetApp storage systems.""The price of the All Flash solution is very high."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with.""The licensing fees are very reasonable."

"The price to capacity ratio is good.""Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included.""It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price.""The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses.""From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive.""I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price.""There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."

More HPE Primera Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Adding more capacity will increase the cost.""They need to improve its pricing. The storage market is dying. So, they need to improve the price because it should reach all people. NetApp is one of the top ones, and they are charging a little bit of royalty as compared to other storage solutions.""Most of my customers pay for the license on a yearly basis. It can be expensive depending on the capacity number.""This solution is not available to many users because the cost is very expensive.""NetApp EF-Series All Flash Arrays is an expensive product."
