Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS.""The most valuable feature is stability.""I have experience with URL filtering, and it is very good for URL filtering. You can filter URLs based on the categories, and it does a good job. It can also do deep packet inspection.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background."

"The mapping features and traffic logging are good.""The user interface is very, very good.""The support for the solution has been excellent. If we ever had an issue they would send an engineer to help us with our problem.""Huawei was able to assist us in the installation of their product. The installation was very fast.""We make use of the new data center, specifically the containerized data center which is built and reviewed by Huawei, including all the device's infrastructure.""The security is good. It's as effective as anything else on the market.""I had no difficulty using the Huawei NGFW.""I like that the initial setup is straighforward. It's also a scalable solution."

"It has a good web cache. I used to use a DHCP server and DNS server. For my company, I use pfSense as a load balancing application.""I like pfSense's reports and how I can control access to the policies on the firewall.""It has a very nice web interface, and it is very simple to use. The way policies are working is also good.""The classic features such as content inspection, content protection, and the application-level firewall, are the most important.""I like pfSense's security features.""The documentation is very good.""The solution is very easy to use and configure.""What I like about pfSense is that it works well and runs on an inexpensive appliance."

Cons
"One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""Implementations require the use of a console. It would help if the console was embedded.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""The change-deployment time can always be improved. Even at 50 seconds, it's longer than some of its competitors. I would challenge Cisco to continue to improve in that area."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi analysis would be useful features to include in the future.""The documentation needs to be improved. When they retire old models, they also retire the documentation. However, if you are still using an older model, you still need access to that documentation. And yet, they go ahead and removed it. It's gone. You are therefore stuck with a device with no documentation and technical support that isn't very helpful as they also remove support assistance as well.""I would like to see an antivirus solution included with the product.""The solution requires a more interactive dashboard. That would make it easier than playing with configurations the way we have to now.""The solution doesn't seem to be very mature. Our networking team says they are experiencing a lot of issues in the firewalls and some routers.""The solution is scalable but it is difficult because you need to purchase new systems, it is not just one click.""With the Huawei firewall, none of the features comes at the top. We found out later that customer support is really not good. For this firewall, because of our customers' routine, for example, every six months they'll do a penetration test to find weaknesses. So whenever they came up with VAPT reports, they are looking to Huawei for help. I think that's basically because it's a different culture. Chinese culture and our culture is different. They have always tried to help find some excuses or say some other things that cannot help you solve the problem immediately.""The solution could be more secure and have better integration."

More Huawei NGFW Cons »

"The product could offer more integrated plugins.""Layer 7 advanced firewall features are not included in the solution.""Ease of use is a problem for a user who is unfamiliar with this product because, in the interface, everything has to be set manually.""The solution could always work at being more secure. It's a good idea to continue to work on security features and capabilities in order to ensure they can keep clients safe.""They can improve the dynamic of the input of IPs from outside.""It could use a little bit of improvement in the reporting.""The hotspot and the portal feature in this solution are not stable for WiFi access. We use it at least once or twice every day and it crashes. Some modules can be better by improving detection and having new updates. Additionally, we have some issues with clustering and load balancing that could improve.""User interface is a little clumsy."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"When you compare the price with other products, it's quite cost-effective. But the problem is always after, let's say, two years or three years later because they are not able to provide updates or patches very quickly.""I believe that we are entitled to a one-year extension on our licensing.""Licensing fees are billed on an annual basis.""The price of the license of this solution is high."

More Huawei NGFW Pricing and Cost Advice »

"We are using the open-source version which is free. We are testing the solution to see if we are going to go to the enterprise version which requires a license and is not free.""I am using the free version of pfSense.""It is an open source firewall.""There is an open-source community version that is available.""It's open-source and it's free. Anything for free is good.""pfSense is open-source.""pfSense is open-source, but the support is something that the customer pays for.""I am using the community version of the solution and it is priced well. There is a cost of learning how to use the solution, if it was free it would be better."
