Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""You do not have to do everything through a command line which makes it a lot easier to apply rules.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""The solution offers very easy configurations.""Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""If configured, Firepower provides us with application visibility and control.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be."

"The user interface is very, very good.""I had no difficulty using the Huawei NGFW.""The support for the solution has been excellent. If we ever had an issue they would send an engineer to help us with our problem.""Huawei was able to assist us in the installation of their product. The installation was very fast.""The security is good. It's as effective as anything else on the market.""We make use of the new data center, specifically the containerized data center which is built and reviewed by Huawei, including all the device's infrastructure.""I like that the initial setup is straighforward. It's also a scalable solution.""The mapping features and traffic logging are good."

"Sophos SG UTM had all the basic functionality that you needed. It is user-friendly and easy to manage for any integrator.""Sophos UTM is the simplest of these products to setup.""The cost of the solution is very reasonable.""It is easy to manage.""This is a very stable product.""We've found the technical support to be helpful.""The most valuable feature is ransomware protection.""The stability, overall, is excellent. I haven't had a problem in the last two years."

Cons
"We cannot have virtual domains, which we can create with FortiGate. This is something they should add in the future. Additionally, there is a connection limit and the FMC could improve.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""I believe that the current feature set of the device is very good and the only thing that Cisco should work on is improving the user experience with the device.""An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough."

"With the Huawei firewall, none of the features comes at the top. We found out later that customer support is really not good. For this firewall, because of our customers' routine, for example, every six months they'll do a penetration test to find weaknesses. So whenever they came up with VAPT reports, they are looking to Huawei for help. I think that's basically because it's a different culture. Chinese culture and our culture is different. They have always tried to help find some excuses or say some other things that cannot help you solve the problem immediately.""The solution is scalable but it is difficult because you need to purchase new systems, it is not just one click.""The solution requires a more interactive dashboard. That would make it easier than playing with configurations the way we have to now.""I would like to see an antivirus solution included with the product.""The solution could be more secure and have better integration.""The solution doesn't seem to be very mature. Our networking team says they are experiencing a lot of issues in the firewalls and some routers.""The documentation needs to be improved. When they retire old models, they also retire the documentation. However, if you are still using an older model, you still need access to that documentation. And yet, they go ahead and removed it. It's gone. You are therefore stuck with a device with no documentation and technical support that isn't very helpful as they also remove support assistance as well.""Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi analysis would be useful features to include in the future."

More Huawei NGFW Cons »

"Monitoring and reporting are areas that need improvement.""Sophos should be more user-friendly, have more dashboards, and an easier implementation.""The classification segregation of applications lacks sufficient definition.""The solution needs to do better at covering mobile devices, although they may have an integrated solution for that purpose.""Anti-phishing functionality should be improved.""There needs to be some improvement in the IPsec VPN. There is implementation only support. I have version one. I'd be most interested in having IP version two from the protocol.""It's stable, but the reaction time of the GUI is terrible.""It would be nice if it had basic features, such as DLP (Data Loss Prevention)."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""The price is comparable.""This product is expensive.""The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today."

"Licensing fees are billed on an annual basis.""The price of the license of this solution is high.""I believe that we are entitled to a one-year extension on our licensing.""When you compare the price with other products, it's quite cost-effective. But the problem is always after, let's say, two years or three years later because they are not able to provide updates or patches very quickly."

More Huawei NGFW Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It is necessary to pay for a licence to use the solution, but it is not very expensive.""The appliance should be purchased and there is a fee for the license.""Our licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis.""This product is free for home users. The more expensive products have better performance.""We pay for the service on a yearly basis. The last time we paid was in June, for a year. At the time, it was about $20,000.""I think the pricing of Sophos is very fair.""It is the cheapest product available. It's good if you have a low budget.""The solution is very low cost compared to competitors. You have a good firewall, a lot of functions for less than the price of some omni firewall competitors."
