Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"We get the Security Intelligence Feeds refreshed every hour from Talos, which from my understanding is that they're the largest intelligence Security Intelligence Group outside of the government.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""I like the firewall features, Snort, and the Intrusion Prevention System (IPS).""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be."

"One of Juniper SRX's most valuable features is the site-to-site VPN.""What I like the most about Juniper is that they have the same CLI on all routers, switches, and firewalls. If you have worked with any Juniper device, such as a Juniper router, you will be able to work with an SRX, which is really cool. It is a nice experience to work with every device of Juniper, not only firewalls.""The IPSec configuration is going well.""The solution has been good for fulfilling our basic needs.""The solution has proven to be quite stable.""The user interface is good.""The Juniper SRX series is easy to use.""Great as an inter-segmentation firewall or border or arch-firewall."

"The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access capabilities, dashboards, and ease of use. There is plenty of documentation and support and it has the plugins that I needed.""OPNsense is easy to scale when running on the hardware.""The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The initial implementation process is simple.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""The VPN server feature is the most valuable. It is integrated with Radius and AAA for doing accounting and authentication. Insight view is also an important feature for me at this time. It allows me to assess our network traffic. I also like the firewall feature. The BSD kernel has a packet filter. It is one of the most solid frameworks for firewalls. Its user interface is one of the best interfaces I have used.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility."

Cons
"The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""The change-deployment time can always be improved. Even at 50 seconds, it's longer than some of its competitors. I would challenge Cisco to continue to improve in that area.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""I believe that the current feature set of the device is very good and the only thing that Cisco should work on is improving the user experience with the device.""One issue with Firepower Management Center is deployment time. It takes seven to 10 minutes and that's a long time for deployment. In that amount of time, management or someone else can ask me to change something or to provide permissions, but during that time, doing so is not possible. It's a drawback with Cisco. Other vendors, like Palo Alto or Fortinet do not have this deployment time issue.""The performance should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The interface could be more user-friendly.""In the future, I would like to see the UI more responsive""The setup process should be improved.""It should be easier to escalate support tickets.""The configuration is difficult and it should be easier.""It could have features that other products support like blade options and stand-alone endpoint security.""I've noticed that the management interface could use some updates and upgrades.""Its logging is very good, but we would like to have an easier way of creating more reports. We would like to be able to manipulate the reports or manage the way the reports are coming out."

More Juniper SRX Cons »

"The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition.""The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs.""The solution could be more secure.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""The logging could improve in OPNsense."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Its price is reasonable. In India, most of the products have a similar price. There is only a 5% to 10% variation in the price of different brands.""When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik.""The price could improve, it is a bit expensive.""The price is reasonable.""It is best suited to an enterprise-level, as the mid-range companies may find that the cost is not affordable.""The product itself is costly and the price of migration is very high.""This is an expensive product.""Compared to other vendors, the pricing of this solution is good."

More Juniper SRX Pricing and Cost Advice »

"As an appliance, it's in the medium price range.""The solution is not expensive.""OPNsense is a well known open-source tool.""OPNsense is an open-source solution and it is free to use.""It is not an expensive product. Basically, I deployed it because it was the fastest solution to satisfy our needs in open source.""OPNsense is open source software so at this time it is free for us to use."
