Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"We have not had to deal with stability issues.""A good intrusion prevention system and filtering.""The implementation is pretty straightforward.""The most valuable feature is stability.""Web filtering is a big improvement for us. The previous version we used, the AC520, did not have that feature included. It was not very easy for us, especially because the environment had to be isolated and we needed to get updates from outside, such as Windows patches. That feature has really helped us when we are going outside to pull those patches.""The most important features are the intrusion prevention engine and the application visibility and control. The Snort feature in Firepower is also valuable.""Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background."

"The IPSec configuration is going well.""Technical support is perfect.""The Juniper SRX series is easy to use.""The reason that we picked Juniper SRX is for the scalability, the fit for purpose, the tools that are available, the ongoing support and the ability to monitor, but particularly for the virtual routers in our data centers so that we can quickly upscale them when needed, when we need more throughput.""You can scale the solution.""What I like the most about Juniper is that they have the same CLI on all routers, switches, and firewalls. If you have worked with any Juniper device, such as a Juniper router, you will be able to work with an SRX, which is really cool. It is a nice experience to work with every device of Juniper, not only firewalls.""I like that Juniper SRX is easy to use, scalable, and stable with good performance.""It is a complete security bundle. The cloud-based Sky Advanced Threat Prevention feature is very valuable. I am 100% satisfied with the performance of the Juniper firewall. It has a very good throughput. It works very fine. We use our firewall as a site-to-site VPN or Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN). In both cases, it has a very good and optimum performance. Their service support is very good in India. I get really good support from the Juniper team."

"Policy VPN, site-to-site VPN, traffic monitoring, anti-spam filters, and all other advanced features are valuable.""The main features of the solution are the control of the site-to-site network access and the overall features.""As a whole, it has a very low requirement for ongoing interaction. It's very self-sufficient. If properly patched, it has very high reliability. The total cost of ownership once deployed is very low.""I like that this product has very few issues.""The policy monitoring and allowing different traffic flows are the most useful features for us; regulating which traffic comes in and out.""The security that is used for defending from the attacks is very good.""The solution has increased productivity with our outside salespeople being able to connect into their computers and use those remotely.""It's hard to pick one feature over another. But if I had to pick one, the UTM would be the most valuable because of the notification. I get notified via email if there is any type of threat detection or alert, telling me something is wrong."

Cons
"It would be great if some of the load times were faster.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure.""There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The setup process should be improved.""The training videos that are available need to be improved, and made more educative.""The capacity can be limiting. We have outgrown its capacity. You can only scale up to a certain extent, depending on the device purchased.""The configuration is difficult and it should be easier.""It should be easier to escalate support tickets.""Their models for service providers could improve.""The solution is quite advanced. You need a lot of training to use it effectively.""Ongoing costs are something that we need to manage and make sure that we're getting value on."

More Juniper SRX Cons »

"Its documentation could be improved. Sometimes, you need to search a bit longer to find what you are looking for.""Sometimes I would like to copy a rule set from one box to another box in a direct way. This is a feature that is not present at the moment in WatchGuard.""There is room for improvement on the education side, regarding what does what, rather than just throwing it at a person and assuming they know everything about it. A lot of times, you have to call WatchGuard support to get the solution that will work, rather than their just having it published so that you can fix the problem on your own.""There should be better integration and a way to configure multiple vendors into the same data center in order to offer more flexibility.""The solution is lacking a professional website, they should be updated more often.""The few issues that we have had, such as not knowing where to go, they have been answered quickly.""The data loss protection works well, but it could be easier to configure. The complexity of data loss protection makes it a more difficult feature to fully leverage. Better integration with third-party, two-factor authentication would be advantageous.""Websense is an application that monitors and filters internet traffic. Websense was derived from WatchGuard. But when you go to WatchGuard to actually implement that particular feature, you have to use some type of additional feature and you have to pay for it, unfortunately. I think it should be free or free in the WatchGuard box itself, as an option. It would be nice if they didn't charge us for that."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""The price is comparable.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"In general, their price definitely couldn't be cheaper.""The price could improve, it is a bit expensive.""Compared to other vendors, the pricing of this solution is good.""The product itself is costly and the price of migration is very high.""This is an expensive product.""It is best suited to an enterprise-level, as the mid-range companies may find that the cost is not affordable.""Its price is reasonable. In India, most of the products have a similar price. There is only a 5% to 10% variation in the price of different brands.""The price is reasonable."

More Juniper SRX Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It has a very good price. It is not the most expensive one, and it is also not the cheapest one. It is just spot-on in terms of price.""We don't have any other costs other than the licensing stuff.""The primary reason that we went with Firebox was its cost. It is very economical and it provided us with all the security functions that we were looking for at the time. And the throughput was more than what we required, so it was a very cost-effective device to deploy on our network.""I find the solution to be very affordable.""It's fair pricing, but it could always be reduced.""The cost was somewhere in the vicinity of $2,000 to $3,000 for each one...""They license it. When we buy it, we buy it with a three-year license. That's the most cost-effective way to do it. So, if you're going to buy it, then buy it with the three-year licensing.""I think the larger firewall packages are much better because a normal firewall is not enough for these times. You need IPS, APT, and all the security features of a firewall that you can buy."
