Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is that DPM has an index so individual files can be searched.""The automated procedure is quite good for us, as it is able to capture all of the information that we require.""The initial setup is quite straightforward.""It has an application backup, a file backup, a system backup and a hypervisor.""The most important feature is that it's easy to use.""It is almost perfect for Microsoft products. It is not a very powerful tool, but it is okay for small sites and small businesses with Microsoft products. It is easy to use for backup and restore. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers such as Exchange and SharePoint servers.""The solution backs up Microsoft workloads as well as anything on the market."

"The solution is very fast. It does not take a long time to backup everything.""The ease-of-use in general is great.""The product makes it easy to restore data.""It is a simple and flexible solution to work with.""The backup potential of the solution is very good. It's protected us in the past very well and allowed us to get up and running after an attack with minimal loss.""The solution is good for small and medium-sized businesses.""The solution is stable.""We are happy with Veritas Backup Exec's stability."

Cons
"Compatibility and integration with other products needs improvement.""The user interface can be improved quite a bit.""You have only a few settings and if you change them for some special configurations, it's very difficult.""Management reporting could be improved.""There is a very poor online user community in terms of people blogging about their experiences with DPM.""Additional Hyper-V knowledge would be great.""It needs portability for other vendors. It is good for backing up Microsoft servers, but it doesn't support third-party solutions such as Oracle Database. It depends on Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy, especially for Hyper-V, which has a lot of problems. They should enhance the Volume Shadow Copy functionality. Its reporting should also be better. Reporting is too weak in DPM."

More Microsoft DPM Cons →

"The integration with SaaS applications like Office 365 needs to be improved.""The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak.""Something within the software itself isn't quite right. There may be a bug or glitch. It will work fine for weeks and then all of a sudden it just tanks.""The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""We've experienced some performance issues with Backup Exec. The backup jobs take too long to complete.""The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology.""The solution lacked local support, which became an issue for us and our customers. They needed to have more presence on the ground.""In the future, their console should not be complicated."
