Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It has a nice, simple control panel. You can clearly see the state and health of storage along with the synchronization.""StarWind vSAN has allowed us to leverage our server infrastructure more completely without the need to add more hardware.""The vSAN provides full redundancy for storage while reclaiming some rack space.""The biggest benefit was that it allowed us to provide SAN services on a limited hardware budget.""Using our own choice of HW allowed us to price our service to answer our customers' needs.""It allows me to configure High Availability and failover clustering with some fault tolerance, at a cost point that doesn’t break the bank for a small business budget.""The primary purpose of this software is to create a virtual SAN between local storage on Hyper-V hosts. I find this feature most valuable since it accomplishes this quite well.""When using new (warranty) servers, you can forget about the storage service for several years. The users will not even notice the failure of two servers out of three."

"One of the most valuable features of Nutanix is that it's easy to use. I love this solution—it's easy to maintain and update, and I think it's almost perfect.""It has a single pane of glass and you don't have to jump around various toolsets.""Its most valuable feature is simplicity. It is so easy to use. Upgrades are easy. It is easy in terms of disaster recovery, failover, database provisioning, and reporting. Everything about it is just simple.""One of the most valuable features is that it can be applied at any scale.""In the world of IT operations, there is a lot of noise. Traditionally, systems would generate a great deal of alerts, events, and notifications, often leading to the operator either a) not seeing critical alerts since they are lost in the noise or b) disregarding the alerts/events.""The initial setup was quite straightforward.""Karbon is a must-have as it drastically simplifies the deployment of Kubernetes.""Nutanix does a superb job with technical support."

"The most valuable feature is the visual encoding."

Cons
"I wish there was online support because email return takes a long time and a faster solution should be found.""I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows.""The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us.""I would like to see options for automated notifications of any changes, including, for example, synchronization issues.""A great feature would be a wizard and to include a new disk in the SAN. At the moment, including a new disk requires several steps - some that must be done at the OS level and others in each node.""The console is something that I feel could be improved. There is nothing technically wrong with it, but it can be jazzed up and/or made to be a little more intuitive.""Management tools could be improved, sometimes the usage seems to be slowed down and confusing. A native web interface could also be an option. I love to see in the future port of the software on a general Linux distribution like RedHat or Ubuntu in order to avoid windows license costs. I would also like to see features like erasure coding implemented. On the VSAN software, I would like to see some improvements in the storage pools (eliminate the usage of the file as a data container and use the raw partition).""Performance when in storage-separate configuration needs to be improved."

"We had a few problems with the foundation machine that you can use to build your systems out. We've got it working now, but it should be improved.""The productivity and work efficiency of Nutanix Acropolis AOS could improve.""The pricing of the solution is too high. It needs to be adjusted or lowered to be more competitive.""The cost of the solution is too expensive. There are other options, such as VMware, that are offered for less money. In Latin America, it seems to be overpriced for the market.""Nutanix Acropolis AOS could improve by adding some NAS features, similar to the ones that are available in the NetApp solution.""As of now, Acropolis and VMware cannot talk to each other. Until we have some kind of interface, it would be much better for Nutanix if they built an interface that can talk. Otherwise, if I have a VMware stack and I already have a Nutanix stack, I can create containers, I create clusters on VMware, I create clusters on Nutanix.""The only problem is that not many operating systems are supported on the AOS hypervisor. They need to probably increase the support on multiple operating systems. As of now, a very limited number of operating systems and patch levels are supported on AOS.""In the next release, I would like better and more competitive pricing."

They are exactly what you expect.""I think that purchasing StarWind Virtual SAN Professional Edition would be optimal for most.""The StarWind VSAN business model is very cost-effective.""The cost, including OPEX, is lower compared to other solutions.""This solution is very accessible and the pro-level for support is well worth the cost."

"The licensing costs are a bit expensive but when you compare the features, it's reasonable.""This product is expensive, but they do have discounts. At one point, I saw that they were giving a 70% or 80% discount, which is a good thing, but maybe they should have a more realistic price and then a 5% to 10% discount.""My advice is to get the ultimate license, as it is worth it.""The price of the solution is high.""When compared to the competitors, the price is reasonable.""AHV is free! This is a great feature that should be taken advantage of.""This product is less expensive than some of the competing HCI solutions.""The pricing of Nutanix is not cheap but there are options available."
