We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It has a nice, simple control panel. You can clearly see the state and health of storage along with the synchronization.""High Availability is the best feature of product.""PowerShell library is pretty good feature as I created with APC PowerChute a script to put volumes on maintenance mode then turning off the StarWind nodes together with the VM and Hosts when UPS reaches 15 percent, this way after a blackout or electrical problems when turning servers on again, there is no issues for syncing or data loss due to energy interrupts.""Highly available storage is the most valuable feature. The entire rollout is hyper-converged and requires no extra storage further than the hosts in which Hyper-V is running. Another feature that has been great is the support from StarWind in general. We have their proactive support package on the main cluster that employs Starwind Virtual SAN.""Updates to server hardware are now painless and done during working hours with zero stress. We had a RAID failure a few months back, and nobody in the building even noticed and there was no after hours time used for repair.""A great feature is that I basically set it and forget it, as everything is automatic.""Recovery and maintenance are now less stressful and most importantly, it allows our users to keep working.""The management interface on the software is very simple. It is insanely simple compared to most SANs. The interface is also powerful when used to complete tasks that an IT administrator needs to complete."

"The most valuable feature is the integration of all parts in Prism Element, the browser-based management tool.""The initial setup was quite straightforward.""Everything is core centralized on the UI.""In general, being able to patch and not having to pay for SanDisk is the best thing about hyper-converged.""One of the most valuable features of Nutanix is that it's easy to use. I love this solution—it's easy to maintain and update, and I think it's almost perfect.""Performing a Nutanix software upgrade is a very simple and non-disruptive process.""I definitely find the reduced power consumption very valuable. Another aspect I really like, when one compares Citrix to VMware, is the interface where you talk directly to your VM from the present software.""One of the most valuable features is how well this solution performs. It's stable, aside from some patch issues, but it's great from a virtualization and scalability perspective."

"The most valuable feature is the customization. With the customization you can really give the customers what they want."

Cons
"This product would benefit from having automated alerting functionality.""I wish the sync after a failure, such as hardware failure or power-related issues, for example, was faster.""I would like to see options for automated notifications of any changes, including, for example, synchronization issues.""We would like the documentation to be more complete. Most items are covered, but if you don't know something, you may need to contact their support.""I would like to see some additional, and possibly clearer, implementation videos with some slower and possibly more detailed descriptions of what the various steps of implementation are for someone who is unfamiliar with high availability and failover clustering in Windows.""This solution should be more self-sufficient, running without creating domains or failover clusters.""If there was one feature I would like to see it would be a built-in subsystem for managing UPS backups shutdown procedures providing a way to initiate VM shutdown on all host servers, shut down the host servers, then put the fault-tolerant mirroring in standby, and finally shut down the StarWind SANs.""If there was a way to automatically put disks in maintenance mode when shutting the host down and exit maintenance mode automatically, that would simplify things."

"This product would be improved if it included a hybrid cloud solution.""The pricing of the solution is too high. It needs to be adjusted or lowered to be more competitive.""There is room to enhance the micro-segmentation.""The productivity and work efficiency of Nutanix Acropolis AOS could improve.""I'm not very technical, so I don't know if there are any features that are really lacking. Our customers seem pleased with it, and I haven't heard of any downsides.""We had a few problems with the foundation machine that you can use to build your systems out. We've got it working now, but it should be improved.""This solution would be improved with built-in integration with Rubrik.""To have internal stability, we needed to network the solution ourselves. Performance depends on the application. Performance could be the lack of IOPS, memory and CPU and configuration issues."

"I think the bang for the buck is much better with StarWind Virtual SAN.""The support contract is well worth it. The price for it was very reasonable and their team has been very engaged whenever we reach out.""The cost takes into account the number of nodes, so the size of the storage is not important.""The cost, including OPEX, is lower compared to other solutions.""This is the best priced solution for an SMB.""I think that purchasing StarWind Virtual SAN Professional Edition would be optimal for most.""Licensing is easy and the whole package is cost-effective.""The cost seems a bit steep, and I wish it was less expensive."

Overview

For SMB, ROBO, Cloud and Hosting providers, who look to cut down virtualization expenses, our solution is StarWind VSAN. It is software that eliminates any need in physical shared storage by basically “mirroring” internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. There is less hardware to buy in general, consequently less money is spent on purchase and maintenance. The existing hardware is used with maximum efficiency, so there is no money wasted at all.

StarWind Virtual SAN targets those who already have servers, or are bound to a particular vendor list to buy from. In case there is a new virtualization infrastructure to be built from scratch, StarWind offers a much better way – StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. It is a turnkey solution complete with hardware and software, powered by StarWind Virtual SAN. Those who need to build and maintain virtualization infrastructure at little to no expense, may be interested in StarWind Virtual SAN Free.
