Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""Provides good integrations and reporting.""Being able to determine our active users vs inactive users has led us to increased productivity through visibility. Also, if an issue was happening with our throughput, then we wouldn't know without research. Now, notifications are more proactively happening.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""The integration of network and workload micro-segmentation helps a lot to provide unified segmentation policies across east-west and north-south traffic. One concrete example is with Cisco ACI for the data center. Not only are we doing what is called a service graph on the ACI to make sure that we can filter traffic east-west between two endpoints in the same network, but when we go north-south or east-west, we can then leverage what we have on the network with SGTs on Cisco ISE. Once you build your matrix, it is very easy to filter in and out on east-west or north-south traffic.""It has a good security level. It is a next-generation firewall. It can protect from different types of attacks. We have enabled IPS and IDS."

"The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""The system in general is quite flexible.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The initial implementation process is simple.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""The most valuable features are reporting, the Sensei plugin, and firewall capabilities.""OPNsense is easy to scale when running on the hardware."

"My technicians find the pfSense's web interface very useful. It is very easy to use. pfSense is very reliable and stable. We like the OpenVPN clients that can be deployed using pfSense very much.""pfSense is easy to use, has user-friendly dashboards, and useful blocking features.""I mostly like all of it. Whatever we use is valuable.""The most valuable features of pfSense are the reports, monitoring, filtration, and blocking incoming and outgoing traffic.""I like the connectivity to the open VPN. It's very smooth.""Content protection, content inspection, and the application level firewall.""It works. I put pfSense in, and it works. I can't think of any trouble I ever had with it. It runs on heat-sensitive appliances. They don't need a fan, so they don't overheat. It is affordable, fast, and very high-speed. It is built on BSD Unix, and it pretty much runs on any Intel processor.""The solution is very easy to use and configure."

Cons
"There is limited data storage on the appliance itself. So, you need to ship it out elsewhere in order for you to store it. The only point of consideration is around that area, basically limited storage on the machine and appliance. Consider logging it elsewhere or pushing it out to a SIEM to get better controls and manipulation over the data to generate additional metrics and visibility.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure.""I believe that the current feature set of the device is very good and the only thing that Cisco should work on is improving the user experience with the device.""I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""The product line does not address the SMB market as it is supposed to do. Cisco already has an on-premises sandbox solution.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""The solution could be more secure.""The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""There should be more technical documentation.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance.""The logging could improve in OPNsense."

More OPNsense Cons →

"The integration could be improved.""There is more demand for UTMs than a simple firewall. pfSense should support real-time features for handling the latest viruses and threats. It should support real-time checks and real-time status of threats. Some other vendors, such as Fortinet, already offer this type of capability. Such capability will be good for bringing pfSense at the same level as other solutions.""The main problem with pfSense is that it lacks adequate ransomware protection.""It needs to be more secure.""The security could be improved.""The solution could improve by having centralized management and API support online.""I've never tried it in large environments. All my clients are small businesses with a handful of employees, so I am not sure how it works in large environments. I keep up with recent versions, and there's nothing I'm waiting for, and nothing breaks when I get a new version.""They can improve the dynamic of the input of IPs from outside."
