We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background.""The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control."

"I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access capabilities, dashboards, and ease of use. There is plenty of documentation and support and it has the plugins that I needed.""The initial implementation process is simple.""The VPN server feature is the most valuable. It is integrated with Radius and AAA for doing accounting and authentication. Insight view is also an important feature for me at this time. It allows me to assess our network traffic. I also like the firewall feature. The BSD kernel has a packet filter. It is one of the most solid frameworks for firewalls. Its user interface is one of the best interfaces I have used.""The system in general is quite flexible.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use."

"The basic firewall rules of the solution are great.""The most valuable features of this solution are the GUI pre-filtering and the ATP (advanced threat protection).""The most valuable features are flexibility, ease of setup, and it's a good product cost-wise.""They offer good antivirus solutions.""It allows us to block applications, i.e., websites by application type category. It is far more capable than content filtering alone.""Deep packet inspection and intelligent application control are the most valuable features. It is a very updated solution. It is very current as compared to other brands and vendors.""The technical support is very good.""We have utilized all the features. The most valuable are the URL filtering by category, DMZ zoning, load balancing and site-to-site VPN."

Cons
"I would like to see improvement when you create policies on Snort 3 IPS on Cisco Firepower. On Snort 2, it was more like a UI page where you had some multiple choices where you could tweak your config. On Snort 3, the idea is more to build some rules on the text file or JSON file, then push it. So, I would like to see a lot of improvements here.""The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""Report generation is an area that should be improved.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""On the VPN side, Firepower could be better. It needs more monitoring on VPNs. Right now, it's not that good. You can set up a VPN in Firepower, but you can't monitor it.""Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"There should be more technical documentation.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""The solution could be more secure.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""The solution would not be suitable for anything large-scale.""The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs."

More OPNsense Cons »

"The anti-spam requires a specific Java version on the server side (do not update it, otherwise it will break).""I would like U.S.-based technical support.""The ongoing service fees are high.""I would like to see better integration.""Having to deal with too many lower-level people in technical support means that it takes longer to resolve issues, so escalating support tickets should be faster.""The reporting feature could be better because most of the companies want to have the analytics included, which is something that you have to buy separately.""We also need to increase the throughput because the other devices are slower. The throughput will become slow. Since we're using VoIP, it tends to affect the voice quality. Even if you're using a quality service, it tends to decrease.""The pricing for this product in India is high and the fees should be reduced."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""There are additional implementation and validation costs.""The price is comparable.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market."

"OPNsense is a well known open-source tool.""As an appliance, it's in the medium price range.""OPNsense is an open-source solution and it is free to use.""OPNsense is open source software so at this time it is free for us to use.""It is not an expensive product. Basically, I deployed it because it was the fastest solution to satisfy our needs in open source.""The solution is not expensive."

"If you want to connect more than five concurrent users by VPN then you have to pay an additional fee.""There is a license required for this solution and you can purchase a one, two, or three year term. Typically businesses choose the one year subscription and then later choose the three year licensing option if they are satisfied.""SonicWall is a one-time purchase and there is no renewal license.""It would be better if it has a better price, but its price is okay considering the benefits that you receive.""SonicWall still is only a dollar or Euro per gigabit. This means, of the IPsec, it's the cheapest solution.""Licensed features provide application control, content filtering, antivirus, and anti-malware all in a single appliance.""The price is reasonable for what it does.""The pricing and value are good."
