We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""A good intrusion prevention system and filtering.""The Firepower+ISE+AMP for endpoint integration is something that really stands it out with other vendor solutions. They have something called pxGrid and i think it is already endorsed by IETF. This allows all devices on the network to communicate.""The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""The most valuable feature is stability.""I have experience with URL filtering, and it is very good for URL filtering. You can filter URLs based on the categories, and it does a good job. It can also do deep packet inspection."

"The initial implementation process is simple.""The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility.""The most valuable features are reporting, the Sensei plugin, and firewall capabilities.""OPNsense is easy to scale when running on the hardware."

More OPNsense Pros →

"Its portal is user-friendly. I am able to manage the user data and access control through this device.""The performance has been good overall.""The interface is user-friendly.""The product, itself, doesn't seem to have any bugs or glitches.""The solution is easy to integrate.""There are plenty of features available, such as Full Guard and WAN.""The initial setup was straightforward.""The solution is excellent for web and application filtering and remote access with the VPN."

Cons
"The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""Report generation is an area that should be improved.""The change-deployment time can always be improved. Even at 50 seconds, it's longer than some of its competitors. I would challenge Cisco to continue to improve in that area.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""The visibility for VPN is one big part. The policy administration could be improved in terms of customizations and flexibility for changing it to our needs.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons →

"The solution would not be suitable for anything large-scale.""There should be more technical documentation.""There are issues with stability and reliability.""The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""The solution could be more secure.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs.""The logging could improve in OPNsense."

More OPNsense Cons →

"I would like to see real-time alerts on traffic insights.""It should have better VPN protection. Some of the VPN applications are not blocked by this firewall. Some VPNs are able to get through this firewall, which is why I am planning to replace this firewall with a good one in the near future.""Sometimes, users are timed out intermittently.""While the security features are excellent, they could be improved.""The VPN is an area that can be improved.""The VPN needs to be improved.""We have had some issues with technical support, which is an area that needs improvement.""I don't know whether this will be included in an upgrade, but I would like to get the user utility, like seeing where the users are using more of the data."
