Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"Provides good integrations and reporting.""I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable.""It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""Firepower has been used for quite a few enterprise clients. Most of our clients are Fortune 500 and Firepower is used to improve their end to end firewall functionality.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""The solution offers very easy configurations.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports."

"The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""OPNsense is easy to scale when running on the hardware.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""I have found the solution has some great features overall, such as guest access capabilities, dashboards, and ease of use. There is plenty of documentation and support and it has the plugins that I needed.""The most valuable features are reporting, the Sensei plugin, and firewall capabilities.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility.""The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use."

"The product is very easy to explore. It has a very good layout.""Technical support is responsive.""The installation is easy. There is a wizard that can be used for a single connection making it simple and if you have multiple connections you can configure it manually.""it's user-friendly, not complex.""There are many valuable features.""We find it easy to use. Its internal configuration is very easy. It is not complicated in terms of use and configuration. It has been fairly stable, and it is also scalable.""It's a product that is in continuous improvement and is following what the customer is asking for. They are taking inputs and designing new releases specifically according to the client and their needs.""The product has a console that is based in the cloud for all their products. In this console, they have email security, firewall security, endpoint security, et cetera. All of the products on offer in the console are very useful for us."

Cons
"It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""The performance should be improved.""FlexConfig is there as a bridge for features that are not yet natively integrated into Firepower. It is a way of allowing you to be able to configure things that wouldn't otherwise be possible until the development team can add them into Firepower's native capability. There is still some work that needs to be done around FlexConfig. There are still quite a few complex things, like policy-based routing, that have to be done in FlexConfig, and it doesn't always work perfectly. Sometimes, there are some glitches. It is recommended that you configure FlexConfig policies with Cisco TAC. It would be good to see Cisco accelerate some of those configurations that you can only do in FlexConfig into the platform, so that they are there natively.""An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment.""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement.""The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""Cisco makes horrible UIs, so the interface is something that should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The only thing that I would like to see improved is the Insight or the NetFlow analysis part. It would be good to have the possibility to dig down on the Insight platform. Right now, we can easily do only a few analyses. If this page becomes more powerful, it surely will be a well-adopted platform.""I would like to see better SD-WAN performance.""There are issues with stability and reliability.""The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition.""There should be more technical documentation.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""The solution could be more secure.""The logging could improve in OPNsense."

More OPNsense Cons »

"The VPN device could be improved upon.""XG is at its end of life. People are moving to XGS.""In the next release, I would like to see improvements made to the policy and simplify the policy-making, as the complexity of it makes it really tough.""The logging side of it could definitely be better. Some of the logging lacks, and the information that they provide you, especially in the spam filtering section, could be better.""The manuals or guides we are given are too simple. When we are implementing the product, it is difficult for us as we don't have more detailed information.""The solution is tied to the US dollar. You need to pay whatever the equivalent is in your own currency, and, if the exchange is bad, it can really add to the cost.""Lacking network access control, user profiling and analytics dashboards.""Some businesses require Dynamic IP. This feature would be useful if it worked."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain."

"As an appliance, it's in the medium price range.""OPNsense is a well known open-source tool.""OPNsense is open source software so at this time it is free for us to use.""The solution is not expensive.""OPNsense is an open-source solution and it is free to use.""It is not an expensive product. Basically, I deployed it because it was the fastest solution to satisfy our needs in open source."

More OPNsense Pricing and Cost Advice »

"We paid for our licensing for three years, upfront, and there are no costs in addition to the standard fees.""The solution is not expensive since one pays as he goes.""The solution is priced well.""Its licensing cost is around 700 bucks a year or something like that. It is 100 bucks a month at the most. It seems to be standard licensing with no additional costs.""The pricing is flexible. Sophos looks at a country's economy and offers flexible pricing. This is how they have managed to penetrate the market.""There is no license required to use this solution.""Because we're in education, Sophos gives us a very competitive price for it.""Over the last two years of the COVID-19 crises, most users required an SSL VPN license, something for which SonicWall charges but which Sophos offers for free."
