We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""If you compare the ASA and the FirePOWER, the best feature with FirePOWER is easy to use GUI. It has most of the same functionality in the Next-Generation FirePOWER, such as IPS, IPS policies, security intelligence, and integration and identification of all the devices or hardware you have in your network. Additionally, this solution is user-friendly.""The Adversity Malware Protection (AMP) feature is the most valuable. It is also very easy to use. Every technical user can operate this solution without any difficulty. The dashboard of Cisco Firepower has every tool that a security operator needs. You can find every resource that you need to operate through this dashboard.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""The most valuable feature is stability.""We have not had to deal with stability issues."

"The solution is good for a basic firewall for a small business or for home use.""The most valuable features in OPNsense are reporting and visibility.""We have found pretty much all the features of the solution to be valuable.""The system in general is quite flexible.""The interface and the dashboard are the most valuable features of this solution.""The VPN server feature is the most valuable. It is integrated with Radius and AAA for doing accounting and authentication. Insight view is also an important feature for me at this time. It allows me to assess our network traffic. I also like the firewall feature. The BSD kernel has a packet filter. It is one of the most solid frameworks for firewalls. Its user interface is one of the best interfaces I have used.""The initial implementation process is simple.""The graphic user interface is very good and it is user-friendly which makes the product easy-to-use."

"Among the most valuable features is the ease of use — love the interface — of both the web interface and of the WatchGuard System Manager.""The solution has increased productivity with our outside salespeople being able to connect into their computers and use those remotely.""The main features of the solution are the control of the site-to-site network access and the overall features.""The solution simplifies my business. Normally, for administration, we are using NetApp System Manager on Window since it's easy to create new policies. In a short amount of time, you can create new policies based on new requirements. For example, in the last few months, many requirements changed due to the coronavirus, adding the use of new services, like Office 365, and eLearning tools, like Zoom.""The ports that I have assigned appear to be unattainable to outside 'mal-actors,' unless they have an address registered on the internet that this thing is expecting. That's a layer of security.""The security that is used for defending from the attacks is very good.""It provides us with Layer 2 and Layer 3 security.""As a whole, it has a very low requirement for ongoing interaction. It's very self-sufficient. If properly patched, it has very high reliability. The total cost of ownership once deployed is very low."

Cons
"In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""One of the few things that are brought up is that for the overall management, it would be great to have a cloud instance of that. And not only just a cloud instance, but one of the areas that we've looked at is using an HA type of cloud. To have the ability to have a device file within a cloud. If we had an issue with one, the other one would pick up automatically.""The solution could offer better control that would allow the ability to restrictions certain features from a website.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""I would like it to have faster deployment times. A typical deployment could take two to three minutes. Sometimes, it depends on the situation. It is better than it was in the past, but it could always use improvement."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"There are issues with stability and reliability.""The solution could be more secure.""The ability to set the VPN IP address would be a welcome addition.""While they do have paid options that actually gives better features, for most of the clients, if they tend to take a paid option will instead opt for Fortinet.""The solution would not be suitable for anything large-scale.""The interface needs to be simplified. It is not user-friendly.""The interface isn't so friendly user. But we have some technicians here who are quite confident with this tool. OPNSense could maybe add sets of rules so it's simpler to manage different groups with particular needs.""There should be more technical documentation."

More OPNsense Cons »

"The solution is lacking a professional website, they should be updated more often.""The few issues that we have had, such as not knowing where to go, they have been answered quickly.""Sometimes I would like to copy a rule set from one box to another box in a direct way. This is a feature that is not present at the moment in WatchGuard.""I would like to see the devices made more flexible by adding modules to increase the ports that we can use.""There are a couple of things I wished that it would do, but I can't think of those off the top of my head.""Its documentation could be improved. Sometimes, you need to search a bit longer to find what you are looking for.""The usability could be better, but it is definitely manageable. If we have to go to a backup internet connection, that could be a little bit easier.""There is room for improvement on the education side, regarding what does what, rather than just throwing it at a person and assuming they know everything about it. A lot of times, you have to call WatchGuard support to get the solution that will work, rather than their just having it published so that you can fix the problem on your own."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case.""The price is comparable.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain."

"OPNsense is open source software so at this time it is free for us to use.""OPNsense is a well known open-source tool.""The solution is not expensive.""OPNsense is an open-source solution and it is free to use.""As an appliance, it's in the medium price range.""It is not an expensive product. Basically, I deployed it because it was the fastest solution to satisfy our needs in open source."

"The primary reason that we went with Firebox was its cost. It is very economical and it provided us with all the security functions that we were looking for at the time. And the throughput was more than what we required, so it was a very cost-effective device to deploy on our network.""It's fair pricing, but it could always be reduced.""They license it. When we buy it, we buy it with a three-year license. That's the most cost-effective way to do it. So, if you're going to buy it, then buy it with the three-year licensing.""I think the larger firewall packages are much better because a normal firewall is not enough for these times. You need IPS, APT, and all the security features of a firewall that you can buy.""The pricing was in line with everyone else; maybe slightly higher.""I usually tell people that it's really affordable as well, particularly compared to Cisco.""We don't have any other costs other than the licensing stuff.""The pricing of WatchGuard is probably a little higher than the SonicWall, but it makes up for it in dependability. It's worth it to me, especially since it's not much higher. For just a little bit higher price you get the dependability of the firewall with the WatchGuard brand."
