Quotes From Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable features are the backup and restore. With this in place along with the clustering, the database is safe from hacking, hardware failure, power failures, and system crashes.""The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any bugs, glitches, or crashes. We find it to be quite reliable.""We have found the replication feature the most useful. We use this feature the most. The ability to recover a database with less effort and the use of Oracle Data Guard Broker to administer the complete environment are also very useful features.""We use Data Guard for online replication from data center, to data center for high availability. This is the most important feature.""One of the most valuable features is real-time replication. The version we're using is reliable and easy to deploy.""It's a very good solution if you want to protect your data across two data centers, or you have a middle man or many administrators who use these solutions for protecting their data. It's very reliable compared to other solutions that are most often not storage-based."

"This is a very flexible product, which allows you to back up not only the physical environment but also the cloud environment.""Veritas Backup Exec is easily managed.""This solution is not complex and you do not have to be too technical to use it.""Veritas is good for small environments.""Good open file option feature, SQL agent, and EM agent.""The product makes it easy to restore data.""The interface for this solution is excellent, and it is easy to restore files compared to other solutions.""It has good stability. Its interface is very good, responsive, and easy for restoring data. I use it for backup, encryption, and restore operations, and it works. I am using many agents from VM to LMDP. I also use an agent for SQL Server, which has advanced options because it is the Enterprise version."

Cons
"The IP implementation and maintenance are a little bit hard to manage across Oracle solutions, including Oracle Data Guard.""It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs.""The pricing of the solution is quite high. They should do what they can to bring it down so that it is more reasonable for customers like us.""One thing that can be improved is the GUI. It would be good to have a very nice GUI to easily configure and administer, providing different presentations to the database administrator. The feature that can be included is the integration with third-party monitoring systems, that is, monitoring systems from other vendors, not only from Oracle.""Oracle could be improved by the ability to manage it on the cloud. This on-premises version is secure and reliable, but I'm sure that they will soon provide a cloud solution that will be even better. In one to two years, we will probably move to the cloud—we have already moved to the cloud with Microsoft Exchange, but our databases are still on-premises. I would prefer managing a cloud version of Oracle.""When the data replicates into the standby database there is a possibility of having a microsecond amount of data loss. The data loss occurs when there is a network disconnection between the primary and secondary standby database located in the data centers or if there is a crash in the primary database."

"It could be improved in the area of reporting and ease-of-use.""Something within the software itself isn't quite right. There may be a bug or glitch. It will work fine for weeks and then all of a sudden it just tanks.""Its scalability should be improved.""A web console would be great because nowadays a lot of products are web-based and you can access the console from various environments. So I would recommend bringing this feature in the next solution.""There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products.""In the future, their console should not be complicated.""The pricing is an area of improvement and the mode of marketing it.""The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology."

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
"The solution could be more cost-effective.""Its price is reasonable.""Licensing depends on the part of the backup you're using. If you have SQL backup, then you must have a SQL license. If you have normal data backup, you would require a license for that.""The price of Veritas Backup Exec could be reduced and we pay annually for the license. However, compared to other solutions, such as Veeam, it is less expensive.""It is a mid-range solution on the pricing scale.""The pricing can be improved.""There is an evaluation license available to test this solution.""It has a good price-value ratio. Its price-value ratio is better than Veeam."
