Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is quite stable. We haven't experienced any bugs, glitches, or crashes. We find it to be quite reliable.""The solution can scale as needed.""One of the most valuable features is real-time replication. The version we're using is reliable and easy to deploy.""It's a very good solution if you want to protect your data across two data centers, or you have a middle man or many administrators who use these solutions for protecting their data. It's very reliable compared to other solutions that are most often not storage-based.""We use Data Guard for online replication from data center, to data center for high availability. This is the most important feature.""We have found the replication feature the most useful. We use this feature the most. The ability to recover a database with less effort and the use of Oracle Data Guard Broker to administer the complete environment are also very useful features."

"The product makes it easy to restore data.""I like that Backup Exec integrates with Microsoft Exchange. We can retrieve backups from the email boxes.""Veritas is good for small environments.""The ease-of-use in general is great.""Veritas Backup Exec is fully compatible with different tape libraries.""Veritas Backup Exec is easily managed.""I have found the overall features of the solution very good and there is the option to backup to the cloud.""It is a simple and flexible solution to work with."

Cons
"One thing that can be improved is the GUI. It would be good to have a very nice GUI to easily configure and administer, providing different presentations to the database administrator. The feature that can be included is the integration with third-party monitoring systems, that is, monitoring systems from other vendors, not only from Oracle.""It is a very useful administrative IT tool. It saves on costs.""Overall, there are some operational issues that need to be dealt with.""The pricing of the solution is quite high. They should do what they can to bring it down so that it is more reasonable for customers like us.""The IP implementation and maintenance are a little bit hard to manage across Oracle solutions, including Oracle Data Guard.""Oracle could be improved by the ability to manage it on the cloud. This on-premises version is secure and reliable, but I'm sure that they will soon provide a cloud solution that will be even better. In one to two years, we will probably move to the cloud—we have already moved to the cloud with Microsoft Exchange, but our databases are still on-premises. I would prefer managing a cloud version of Oracle."

"It could be improved in the area of reporting and ease-of-use.""There needs to be an integration process of the endpoint devices so that we don't have to redo everything for different products.""The backup is not robust enough when you have a lot of technology.""The EDR should be looked at, as the operating system is too weak.""I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically.""It is currently missing the dynamic backup feature for virtual machines, which is available in NetWorker. I can create politics in NetWorker to add virtual machines with specific tags, but I cannot do this in Backup Exec, which is a minus point for me. Currently, a user has to send a request to the Backup administrator to add a machine to the backup, but I should be able to create rules to automatically add a new machine to the backup. This kind of functionality is very important in current times, especially when we are using cloud solutions. I should be able to create more than one stream in a policy and specify how many streams I want to run in parallel in one policy. Currently, I have to manually create more policies to backup more than one virtual machine at the same time. Their support can also be improved in terms of response time.""The one thing which could be improved, which we have informed Veritas about, is the ability to plug in to the cloud. Meaning, instead of using local storage if we're backing up a small user or end user, we want to be able to make it so they can direct the backups directly to the cloud. It can't be done at the moment. We can only back up to the storage then replicate to the cloud, but we cannot use the cloud as a source of storage.""I have experienced some errors, such as failures, but there have not been very many."
