We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The dashboard is the most important thing. It provides good visibility and makes management easy. Firepower also provides us with good application visibility and control.""I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well.""Firepower NGFW has improved my organization in several ways. Before, we were trying to stamp out security threats and issues, it was a one-off type of way to attack it. I spent a lot of manpower trying to track down the individual issues or flare-ups that we would see. With Cisco's Firepower Management, we're able to have that push up to basically one monitor and one UI and be able to track that and stop threats immediately. It also gives us a little more granularity on what those threats might be.""Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports.""I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity."

"The strengths of Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls are application visibility and application awareness. Their strong point is identifying applications for traffic. So all of the policies that are configured are related to the application and not to a port.""Overall, it is a good solution. It is stable. We use URL filtering, which is useful for blocking undesired URLs.""Application control, IPS, and sandboxing towards the cloud are the most valuable features. It is a very user-friendly product with a very easy-to-use interface.""The scalability is very good.""Ability to log each and every application.""The App-ID, Content-ID, User-ID, and encryption and decryption are valuable features.""The most valuable feature is the security provided by the ATP.""Protection from a single packet and ease of making security rules."

"The stability is better than other products.""It is able to fulfill my requirements. It protects our network environment. It has control over IPS, signatures, and it can also manage bandwidth and mapping. It is also stable and has good support.""The DPI-SSL is the solution's most valuable aspect. It's handy.""They offer good antivirus solutions.""User friendly and intuitive.""The most valuable features are flexibility, ease of setup, and it's a good product cost-wise.""This product is user-friendly and easy to configure.""The most valuable features are the VPN, SSL VPN, and IPSec VPN."

Cons
"The configuration in Firepower Management Center is very slow. Deployment takes two to three minutes. You spend a lot of time on modifications. Whereas, in FortiGate, you press a button, and it takes one second.""The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""The initial setup can be a bit complex for those unfamiliar with the solution.""FirePOWER does a good job when it comes to providing us with visibility into threats, but I would like to see a more proactive stance to it.""FlexConfig is there as a bridge for features that are not yet natively integrated into Firepower. It is a way of allowing you to be able to configure things that wouldn't otherwise be possible until the development team can add them into Firepower's native capability. There is still some work that needs to be done around FlexConfig. There are still quite a few complex things, like policy-based routing, that have to be done in FlexConfig, and it doesn't always work perfectly. Sometimes, there are some glitches. It is recommended that you configure FlexConfig policies with Cisco TAC. It would be good to see Cisco accelerate some of those configurations that you can only do in FlexConfig into the platform, so that they are there natively.""The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""Report generation is an area that should be improved.""The intelligence has room for improvement. There are some hackers that we haven't seen before and its ability to detect those types of attacks needs to be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"This solution cannot be implemented on-premises; it's only a cloud solution. The price is high as well.""In the cloud, the HA could be a lot better. Its price could also be better. It is very expensive.""With new features and applications you get bugs.""Interface could be improved visually and simplified.""I would like to see it provide us with intelligent information from the data that it captures, within the same cost.""When it comes to their support, we have to select every single component that we want to include in a particular bundle. That is a very tedious process. T""PA-220 Next-Generation Firewall would be perfect if it has spam filtering.""I think automation and machine learning can be improved to make bulk configurations simpler, easier, and faster"

More Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls Cons »

"It doesn't require much improvement. The only improvement area is that cloud reporting, assessment reporting, and other reporting features should be available with the subscription. They should provide reporting features with the subscription base, which is currently not there. We bought the reporting tool, but there are some complications. They have made some changes to the application, and now the reporting management is completely on the cloud.""They are not ready for managed security services. Their Cloud GMS product is weak, barely out of beta (buggy).""The implementation for VLANs is a little bit cumbersome. It would be good to make that a little bit easier.""Vendor support needs improvement. The frequency of time and support should be increased.""SonicWall does not support DynDNS, yet this is an important feature for smaller companies that do not have a static IP address.""It would help us a lot of SonicWall sent us more information about the latest updates and things that are changing.""The reporting and monitoring are a bit complex and should be easier in SonicWall NSa because other firewalls I have experienced have been more simple, such as Palo Alto. We are able to receive a clear view of our network. As a general user with little experience, it would be difficult for them to handle.""The pricing for this product in India is high and the fees should be reduced."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions.""The price is comparable.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive.""Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""It definitely competes with the other vendors in the market.""Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed."

"The NG firewall is an expensive solution.""It is expensive as compared to other brands.""We pay for the licensing annually and the price could be cheaper.""It is very expensive. You pay for a year.""It is a little bit expensive.""The pricing is competitive in the market.""This solution is quite expensive.""Its price should be improved."

More Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls Pricing and Cost Advice »

"Normally, when we buy any product, we buy it with a five-year service built into it. Later on, depending on the growth of the organization, we go for a new one or an upgrade.""Licensed features provide application control, content filtering, antivirus, and anti-malware all in a single appliance.""Its price is okay.""Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis, and we are happy with the pricing.""SonicWall still is only a dollar or Euro per gigabit. This means, of the IPsec, it's the cheapest solution.""When implemented properly, the total cost of operation is very low.""They do have the option to purchase yearly, or two years, and three years renewal.""We are on a three-year license for the solution. The price is inexpensive compared to other solutions."
