We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"It is one of the fastest solutions, if not the fastest, in the security technology space. This gives us peace of mind knowing that as soon as a new attack comes online that we will be protected in short order. From that perspective, no one really comes close now to Firepower, which is hugely valuable to us from an upcoming new attack prevention perspective.""One of the most valuable features of Firepower 7.0 is the "live log" type feature called Unified Event Viewer. That view has been really good in helping me get to data faster, decreasing the amount of time it takes to find information, and allowing me to fix problems faster. I've found that to be incredibly valuable because it's a lot easier to get to some points of data now.""A good intrusion prevention system and filtering.""The most valuable features of this solution are the integrations and IPS throughput.""The most important feature is the intensive way you can troubleshoot Cisco Firepower Firewalls. You can go to the bit level to see why traffic is not handled in the correct way, and the majority of the time it's a networking issue and not a firewall issue. You can solve any problem without Cisco TAC help, because you can go very deeply under the hood to find out how traffic is flowing and whether it is not flowing as expected. That is something I have never seen with other brands.""There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background.""It's got the capabilities of amassing a lot of throughput with remote access and VPNs.""I have integrated it for incidence response. If there is a security event, the Cisco firewall will automatically block the traffic, which is valuable."

"They are regularly releasing new versions that include more integration with third-party services.""The management options are good.""I like that it has high security.""The ease of use and the ease of configuration of our policies are the most valuable features.""We have found the DPI ability to understand web applications and build access rules on web application categories first to be a great feature.""The Unified Threat Management (UTM) module, which consists of the basic firewall and IPS services, is what the majority of our customers use in Palo Alto Firewall.""I like all the functions and features.""With App-ID, we can identify exact traffic. Even if someone tries to fool the firewall with a different port number, or with the correct port number, Palo Alto is able to identify what kind of traffic it is."

"The most valuable features are IPS, MAPI, NAT, and VPN.""Easy to set up and easy to integrate.""Its detection, antivirus, and filtering features are the most valuable. The facility to connect by using the VPN connection is also a very valuable feature. It is very strong, secure, and reliable. We have implemented the Untangle solution in all hardware. It is also a user-friendly solution. It is easy to learn and easy to configure.""All features are useful. We are using premium features such as bandwidth sharing, failover, web filters, SSL controls, antivirus, and VPN. We use these features to the fullest. These features are available in the paid firewall license, not the free one.""They have a command center that makes it easy to log into and see all of your appliances nationwide."

Cons
"An area of improvement for this solution is the console visualization.""Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized.""The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement.""The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""The initial setup could be simplified, as it can be complex for new users.""One feature I would like to see, that Firepower doesn't have, is email security. Perhaps in the future, Cisco will integrate Cisco Umbrella with Firepower. I don't see why we should have to pay for two separate products when both could be integrated in one box.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""Report generation is an area that should be improved."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"The SD-WAN product is fairly new. They could probably improve that in terms of customizing it and making the configuration a little bit easier.""I wish that the Palos had better system logging for the hardware itself.""The whole performance takes a long time. It takes a long time to configure.""Currently, they don't have email protection. They can maybe add it in the future. Currently, if you want to do so, you need to go with another solution.""I would like to see better third-party orchestration so that it is easier for the team to work with different products.""With new features and applications you get bugs.""It would be better to have more tools to control Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls. We don't have too many tools to access Palo Alto. For example, the IT team doesn't have access to it. We can see it physically and see if it's running or not. We need to contact a special team to receive that information. I would also like to see more reporting in the next release.""Technical support could be faster."

More Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls Cons »

"We seek the availability of the hardware in our region. The hardware-based firewall from Untangle is currently not available in our region. It should have threat protection on a real-time basis. This feature, available in Check Point and Sandstorm kind of scenario, is currently missing in Untangle NG Firewall.""The common center facility that Untangle provides should be available on-premises. There are great corporations here in Mexico that like the Untangle solution, but they don't like the fact that the monitoring and access to the appliance are in the cloud. They request for the common center facility to be available and installed on-premises.""The pricing should be reduced because it is expensive.""They don't have any feature that allows you to drop the session.""Web-filtering policies could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price of Firepower is not bad compared to other products.""When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today.""When we purchased the firewall, we had to take the security license for IPS, malware protection, and VPN. If we are using high availability, we have to take a license for that. We also have to pay for hardware support and technical support. Its licensing is on a yearly basis.""Cisco is not for a small mom-and-pop shop because of the cost, but if you're in a regulated industry where a breach could cost you a million dollars, it's a bargain.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""This product requires licenses for advanced features including Snort, IPS, and malware detection."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Pricing and Cost Advice »

"I am not involved in the commercial side, but I believe that Palo Alto is quite expensive compared to others.""This solution is quite expensive.""On the lower end, it's likely to cost $15,000 for renovation and support.""We were very happy when they released the PA-440s. Previously, we had been looking at the PA-820s, which were a bit of overkill for us. Price-wise and capability-wise, the PA-820s hit the nail on the head for us.""Paul Alto is the most expensive solution in this category.""It is an expensive solution.""It is very expensive. You pay for a year.""The pricing is competitive in the market."

More Palo Alto Networks NG Firewalls Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It is not expensive. The best part is that it is based on the pay-per-use kind of scenario. An increase or decrease in the number of people doesn't make any difference. We are really happy about using this particular scenario.""It is not expensive. It is cheaper than Fortinet.""The pricing model is better than with SonicWall."
