We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable feature is the reliable storage replication, which enables me to create a robust infrastructure to run our business.""It is extremely stable.""It allows me to configure High Availability and failover clustering with some fault tolerance, at a cost point that doesn’t break the bank for a small business budget.""StarWind vSAN has allowed us to leverage our server infrastructure more completely without the need to add more hardware.""The management interface on the software is very simple. It is insanely simple compared to most SANs. The interface is also powerful when used to complete tasks that an IT administrator needs to complete.""The solution is also quite flexible. As an example, other vSAN solutions that we looked at had more stringent requirements regarding mixed HDD/SSD storage which wouldn't have worked in our environment.""Updates to server hardware are now painless and done during working hours with zero stress. We had a RAID failure a few months back, and nobody in the building even noticed and there was no after hours time used for repair.""We have experienced multiple hardware failures at one site and the fault-tolerant volume worked exactly as expected with zero downtime."

"The consolidation of the management in one control point is the most valuable. The whole infrastructure management is consolidated in just one console point. The documentation is also pretty good.""It is stable and scalable.""The most useful feature is the solution's automation in terms of how we are able to spin up a certain workload in real-time when we are doing R&D.""Both the scalability and stability of this solution are excellent.""I like that you can add other types of services."

More Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure Pros »

"It is flexible like a hyper-convergence system. You can add nodes, and you can scale to have better performance and stability. I also like the backup feature, the recovery system, and the web interface GUI to handle everything.""The Continuous Data Protection (CDP) feature is one of the good features.""I would rate the user-friendliness an eight out of ten.""Sangfor has many solutions, and you can easily manage their machine servers with just one management. They're always striving for greatness, and they continuously update their products. For example, they have now built endpoint security within the firewall. They are continuously improving not only the security but also all other products.""The interface is very user-friendly."

Cons
"For the StarWind VSA vSphere solution, I would like to see a simpler and automated virtual machine installation process in terms of network settings.""Having more support plan options would be nice.""If there was a way to automatically put disks in maintenance mode when shutting the host down and exit maintenance mode automatically, that would simplify things.""The main thing I would like to see improved is the level of documentation.""This solution should be more self-sufficient, running without creating domains or failover clusters.""Being able to run StarWind vSAN on top of any free UNIX operating system to build a resilient iSCSI/FTP/SMB storage system would be useful.""When StarWind Virtual SAN for vSphere nodes go offline unexpectedly, the nodes have to re-sync disks fully which takes a long time. We had a power failure and when both nodes came online, VMware vSphere didn't see StarWind disks before I manually re-scanned them form ESXi administration console even though it should happen automatically""It would help if the manufacturer provided clearer and more detailed documentation, with explanations of how the application can be installed in various HA configurations."

More StarWind Virtual SAN Cons »

"The main issue is the initial investment. It is an expensive product, and it should be cheaper. It should also be easier to use and manage. The professional service for this solution is quite complex and expensive.""The licensing policy needs to be improved. They have a licensing policy based on the number of CPU sockets. Nowadays what has happened is that the license they are trying to move is based on the number of CPU cores. With the advancement in technology there are now more cores in a single CPU. It's been very challenging in terms of managing the license around everything. Today we have a processor with 24 and 32 cores on the same physical CPU.""It should be more user-friendly, in my opinion.""It is not user-friendly, and it is very difficult to operate. You have to have a deep understanding of the technical details of the infrastructure to implement it. When you compare it with VMware, it is totally different because the graphical user interface is not that easy to understand. It is not intuitive. To use it, you have to read a lot of documentation and even understand what is going on behind the solution. It is not for someone who has a little bit of knowledge. Currently, it is too complex. I need something that is easy to implement. It should have a basic configuration as well as a complex configuration.""The cloud deployment could be improved."

More Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure Cons »

"It can have more compatibility and new features. I would also like to see better performance. Some of the other HCI solutions already provide the SSD and flash storage and much higher Intel processors. Sangfor HCI can improve on that.""The error reporting needs to be improved.""As far as I know, no hyper-convergence solution includes security, so you have to buy security from another brand. For example, you buy SimpliVity or Nutanix. They don't really have a security solution inside the product. It would be good if there is a security solution inside this solution so that it is not only for the virtualization of CPU, RAM, disk, and network but also for security.""Sangfor does not support a SAS configuration, which is something that we would like.""Its virtual machine tools can be improved. These tools should be enhanced for use in other applications and operating systems, such as Linux."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The premium support from StarWinds is a must have. The ability to have access to a storage engineer 24/7 is a must for a production environment.""The setup cost, pricing, and licensing are very straightforward. They are exactly what you expect.""I think the bang for the buck is much better with StarWind Virtual SAN.""This solution is very accessible and the pro-level for support is well worth the cost.""If you are looking at a traditional SAN for a small cluster, give StarWind vSAN because you will save thousands without any compromise.""I think that purchasing StarWind Virtual SAN Professional Edition would be optimal for most.""The cost takes into account the number of nodes, so the size of the storage is not important.""There are two tiers of support and in my opinion, support is worth the cost."

"It is quite pricey.""Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure is an open-sourced, low-cost solution with full features."

More Red Hat Hyperconverged Infrastructure Pricing and Cost Advice »

"It is in the middle range as compared to other hyper-converged infrastructure solutions. There is a three-year warranty on the hardware. The license also includes other features. Sangfor has included Continuous Data Protection (CDP) and a built-in firewall with the license. Other top brands, such as VxRail and VMware, require a separate license for such features.""Its price should be better, but I don't think they will change the price list. You have to pay for licenses, and you have to pay for support, so you have an annual fee. You can use the product without the fee, but it's really dumb because you need support. We are an IT company. We provide the product, and we need the support too for our customers.""The pricing of Sangfor is very competitive.""The price of Sangfor is cheaper than other competing products."
