We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
"The most valuable feature is the access control list (ACL).""One of the nice things about Firepower is that you can set it to discover the environment. If that is happening, then Firepower is learning about every device, software operating system, and application running inside or across your environment. Then, you can leverage the discovery intelligence to get Firepower to select the most appropriate intrusion prevention rules to use for your environment rather than picking one of the base policies that might have 50,000 IPS rules in it, which can put a lot of overhead on your firewall. If you choose the recommendations, as long as you update them regularly, you might be able to get your rule set down to only 1,000 or 1,500, which is a significant reduction in a base rule set. This means that the firewall will give you better performance because there are less rules being checked unnecessarily. That is really useful.""The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy.""One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses.""Its Snort 3 IPS has better flexibility as far as being able to write rules. This gives me better granularity.""We have not had to deal with stability issues.""Feature-wise, we mostly use IPS because it is a security requirement to protect against attacks from outside and inside. This is where IPS helps us out a bunch.""The solution offers very easy configurations."

"The most valuable feature is the user-friendly navigation.""The most valuable features are unified threat management which provides security intelligence and the VPN for both site-to-site and remote access.""Offers the right amount of control without being incredibly convoluted and frustrating.""It's a very cost-effective solution.""Technical support is good.""The installation is straightforward and took approximately 30 minutes.""Most of the features are useful. It is easy to configure and easy to troubleshoot. I can see the utilization of different networks, and there are also App control features.""We are able to block whatever we want to block by using this product. It provides all required security features, such as content filtering, VPN, in one box. Before switching to SonicWall, we had specified all required features."

"The most valuable feature is the IPSec forwarding.""It has been working fine. You just turn it on, and it works.""The most valuable features are the firewall section, the VPN, and how you control live users.""The solution is easy to use.""The user interface is well laid out and understandable.""The main features I have found best are the load balancer and ease of use.""There are plenty of features available, such as Full Guard and WAN.""The interface is user-friendly."

Cons
"The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore.""We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond.""It's mainly the UI and the management parts that need improvement. The most impactful feature when you're using it is the user interface and the user experience.""This product is managed using the Firepower Management Center (FMC), but it would be better if it also supported the command-line interface (CLI).""The initial setup was a bit complex. It wasn't a major challenge, but due to our requirements and network, it was not very straightforward but still easy enough.""In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard.""The central management tool is not comfortable to use. You need to have a specific skill set. This is an important improvement for management because I would like to log into Firepower, see the dashboard, and generate a real-time report, then I question my team.""Deploying configurations takes longer than it should."

More Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall Cons »

"I would like the solution to build in more redundancy. I""FortiGate has a client DNS in the firewall, but SonicWall doesn't have that. To create or configure a site-to-site VPN tunnel, we have to give a DNS name. Currently, we have to get the DNS name from a third party and then include it in SonicWall, whereas FortiGate has its own client DNS, so it provides a DNS name, and it does not require a third party. There should be a graphical option to view the network utilization and bandwidth usage.""I would like to see more integration with other platforms.""In terms of what needs to be improved, I would say better load balancing and data filtering.""In an upcoming release, SonicWall could improve by adding cloud management for all devices for free or at a nominal cost. Currently, they have a cloud management platform but is not free. We have the MySonicWall portal for purchasing from them for software updates and renewals.""The areas we would like to see improvement include more features available similar to the equivalent FortiGate appliance, e.g. SSL encryption and inspection. Two-factor authentication capability would be another additional feature that could be included in the next release.""Its reporting can be improved. Currently, we cannot directly get the user names. It only shows the IP, which makes it a bit confusing because we need to use the IP to find the user. If we could directly get the name of the user, it would be better.""Its pricing can be better. It is very expensive."

More SonicWall TZ Cons »

"Cyberoam UTM needs to have more certifications with third-parties, such as NSS Labs.""Sometimes, during part of the configuration, if you don't have a lot of technical knowledge, then you may struggle a bit to configure it.""We have had some issues with technical support, which is an area that needs improvement.""There needs to be more documentation that users can access to help them understand the solution or troubleshoot as necessary.""I would say there's room for improvement in terms of the GUI. Because it is better than some of the other standard firewalls. They have the drag and drop features.""The solution is at its end of life and some of the appliances are finishing.""Sometimes, users are timed out intermittently.""The implementation policy needs improvment."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"Pricing is the same as other competitors. It is comparable. The licensing has gotten better. It has been easier with Smart Licensing.""Its pricing is good and competitive. There is a maintenance cost. It includes SecureX that makes it cost-effective as compared to the other solutions where you have to pay for XDR and SOAR capabilities.""I know that licensing for some of the advanced solutions, like Intrusion Prevention and Secure Malware Analytics, are nominal costs.""I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way.""I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing.""This solution is expensive and other solutions, such as FortiGate, are cheaper.""This product is expensive.""The price for Firepower is more expensive than FortiGate. The licensing is very complex. We usually ask for help from Solutel because of its complexity. I have a Cisco account where I can download the VPN client, then connect. Instead, I create an issue with Solutel, then Solutel solves the case."

"Customers are required to pay for a yearly subscription.""The price could be better for us in Bolivia.""It is a bit expensive. We have to purchase the license and the reporting part separately, which makes it a bit pricey. This is the main reason why we have thought of moving to another firewall. It would be good if they combine both of these.""The price is fair for the solution for the quality you receive.""Its price is very high, which makes it difficult to convince the clients to buy this solution.""It has a yearly subscription.""The price is high compared to some other solutions.""You need to purchase multiple licenses to manage multiple devices which is cost-prohibitive for the value you would receive."

More SonicWall TZ Pricing and Cost Advice »

"This is a cost-effective solution compared to other vendors, such as Cisco.""It is a cheap firewall. We are not paying for any license.""The solution comes with a yearly licensing fee.""There is a license required for this solution and we are on a three-year contract. I am satisfied with the price.""There is a license for this solution and it is priced competitively. We paid approximately $2,000 for the license.""There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.""We pay for licensing the solution. It's my understanding that it is not overly expensive. It may be somewhere around $2,000 for a license.""It's not an expensive product."
